Went to Lakeside today. Long day, arrived at 7am for happy laps with the club, took missus around for a half hour. First time on a track, all the camber of lakeside was a surprise to her, and the lateral grip of semis and aero was a shock too. Made some interesting facial expressions. After that, I ran the general practice in the morning and street sprints in the afternoon. Air warmed up around 11am, and times began to climb up again, but I managed three 62.51 laps in the morning.

Here's the first 62.51 lap, including my GPS falling off the windscreen and into my footwell, floating around underneath the pedals. Little disconcerting, but no big deal.

Also during the first sprint session I ended up queued behind a lot of slow cars. Supposedly we were group according to our known lap times, and somehow that means 62s put me in group 4, along with cars doing 72+ second laps. This renault was being a pain and not letting me pass, so I made him. That was his normal braking point, within a lap he was gone from my mirrors even on the straight.

Ran the QR club day yesterday. Sessions all very close together with running 3 groups, but it definitely maximised the number of laps everybody could run if they felt the need to run every session. It was never going to run quite as smoothly as when Doug was running the show, but still kept it all flowing quite nicely all afternoon. Thanks to Adam and all involved for making it happen.

Track was not particularly quick, but my lack of practice had a larger effect I think. Ended up improving by 0.9 seconds on both Clubman and Sprint, compared to last time I ran which was before the aero parts, about 100 laps of Lakeside ago, on the old A1RM brake pads, and before the new alignment. Down to 64.3 seconds on Clubman, 61.4 on Sprint, and I finally ran National for the first time and put down a 1:29.4. Unfortunately it turns out that if you use wifi to wake the GoPro (to watch your off-track excursion and turn 2), it switches one-button record mode back off. Since I did use wifi after the last Clubman session, I didn't get any footage of my Sprint sessions.

I also drove Kirk's supercharged NB8B in the third Sprint session, just to see what it could do. Best time of 62.7 on sprint, taking it easyish through T1 and T2, and all braking zones. AD08Rs, MCA X-C coilovers and oem brakes are quite capable for a few laps, before I cooked the brakes coming into the crossover and returned to pits. The speedo was showing 195-200kmh on the front straight before braking early for T1, takes off very well out of T6 and pulls all the way through to redline. Sometimes a bit of power is nice.

I was impressed by Thane in one of the orange 86s, especially considering it was his first time at QR. He set some very quick times, even for having ~170rwkw at his disposal. Going to be very, very quick when he gets some more practice. It's just a shame he lives 2000km from any tracks, and only gets down here occasionally.

And a clip of the brakes after a Sprint session. Didn't fade, so I'm guessing it's rubber chunks melting on the inside of the wheel. Still, looks like I'm working hard :)

Well, tyres were pretty well worn after lakeside and qr over the weekend. Cleaned the wheels of all the rubber chunks, and decided it's time to upgrade.

Will bring it to QR general practice on the 20th to heat cycle them, won't be doing any flat laps but should get a rough idea of how they feel at least. Will mooch a drive of yours while I'm there, would be a shame to waste my entry fee on only 15min of track time

I've had 2 sets of them so far, and I will be getting a third very soon.

I found them not to dissimilar feeling to the A050's.

In other words, I reckon you picked some good rubber and a 60 should be possible ;)

60 hey? You really think they're 1.5sec+ quicker than the nittos were? I know they will be a big jump but not expecting quite that much gain.

Not much lately, went to QR general practice to heat cycle the new tyres. Minor maintenance too, new A1RM pads in the rear since my Winmax pads didn't turn up in time for the club day this Monday. Also moved the GM IAT I've had dangling above the headers for the last 8 months inside the airbox. Had worn through the insulation and was shorting on the top of the engine, rough idle and dodgy AFRs because of it. Will repair the wires properly after Monday. Hoping for good weather, want to see just how good these tyres are.

Lakeside went well. Warmer conditions than back when I did my Pb on the NT01s, but still improved by a full second, down to 61.55. Z214s are ridiculously sticky, increasing vmin through corners by 6-8kmh compared to same setup with NT01s.

New parts are good parts. Singular Motorsports 3" brake ducts arrived today. Will try to get them on this weekend. Should help to make the race meeting at QR in November a bit more manageable. With 28 laps of National circuit proposed for the Sunday, it's gonna be rough.

I'll be interested to see how you going fitting these.

I've got the same ducts, but haven't fitted the hose yet as haven't found an easy way to feed it from the front..

I have those. Be prepared for a bit of adjustment with pliers and tin snips, I found they wanted to rub on the disk.

I took my ducting from the fog light openings, iirc I got a pair of ducts from an aviation supply place in Brisbane that fitted like they were made for the job. Did you get the hose from Singular too? I used air con hose bought locally, it seems to work fine.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

GM, do you have any pics of the location of the ducts in the front bumper?
