A***hole neighbour hit my car

Postby cherrymx5 » Mon Jul 18, 2016 8:36 am

My neighbour, charming old fart that he is obviously has dementia, because he was parked behind me and scraped my car with his, leaving a little white paint present..

I confronted him, (wish he was younger so I could have knocked him out) but he said he wasn't parked there, and that he didn't do it. But of course!

I measured the mark on my car from the ground, and lo and behold his was at the exact same height, exactly where it should have been.

So after confronting him and asking him to be honest, I said if he wasn't that I would involve the police. They were useless.
Apparently paint from his car which is now imbedded in my paint is "circumstantial" evidence that his car hit mine, coupled with the fact that the marks are a mirror image..

What a load of bollo*ks.
Rant over

(Should I slash his tyres?)

Could report it all to insurance and see if they will chase him for you.

Hey, he's old (maybe with few assets ? and not a full load of neurons to fire off) and its only a car. Ease up.

At least you can rant here.

On a serious note if he has medical issues maybe he should not be driving. Do us all a favour and get him removed from being able to drive. Is there any paint missing from his car?

In a recent near miss on my bike, the driver who decided to merge into my lane at 100 kmh said "I can't see well out of my right eye and did not see you" this was responded with "Maybe you should not be driving". Then the A hole asked me to stop shouting at him as I would give him a heart attack, this was responded with "What do you just think you gave me, pay back is a bitch".

Well I spoke to the cops and they just told me it was a dead end. Fuming at that and only have third party insurance. I will buff it out, and his car is some old Mazda 323 from the 80s and looks like it's been through a few hedges.. Super gutted as I had literally just sealed the paint and polished her up.. Not really gonna get revenge, just like a bit of a vent

Maybe set a sprinkler up and accidently turn it on when he walks past :) However neighbour 'disagreements' can very quickly escalate into a World War type situation (highly emotional).

Unfortunately no witnesses, so can't be proven. That's why the police/insurance won't get involved.

Yep, pretty much.

You'll say "he hit my car"
He'll say "no I didn't"
You'll show the scrape, he'll say "could have been any car"
and you'll just go in a circle.

Insurance and police can't simply go after someone based on paint colour, or "you reckon it was them"
Since, well, imagine someone down the road finds a red scrape on their car, say the postie rubbed the van when they did a delivery.
They get home, see the red paint, and see your car with a scrape and think you've done it.

Would you want insurance/police to come after you because the paint is the same colour?

Would you expect them to take paint samples and do forensic testing on the paint etc?

Yeah no one accepts responsibility for small dings and scrapes these days.
The amount of times I've seen people door the car next to them, look at it, shrug their shoulders and walk away is astonishing.

I had what I can only presume is bike handle bars dropped on my front guard (parked next to a sign post). Scratched right through to the metal 4mm wide an inch long and a rather deep dent. No witnesses, no note, no one cares even on a busy main street with lots of pedestrians...
Matches the door dings down both sides I guess...

It's like your car has to be near written off for people to acknowledged responsibility and even then some will try to blame you or someone else.

A bit of grace and good manners may have got a result but belligerence especially to an older person is a sure way not to- it's a give away "confronted" . If you did not see it and he denied it then that should be the end of it. It is totally unrealistic and absurd to think that the Police should get involved.

As other have said without a witness its more hassle than it's worth for insurers.

Some people might be inclined to lodge a claim to their insurer and state that they personally witnessed the incident. The insurer then contacts the TP. If there is a dispute they may assess the TP vehicles damage to see if it's a match. If it is the insurers recoveries department will handle the rest.

I do believe this is fraud though, so I would advise against it.

I read the initial post like that too. Going in aggressive and confrontational straight up is the ideal way to instantly get the back up of the person your having a go at.
Even worse, imagine if your neighbour genuinely didn't do it and you've just had a scream in his face. Quick way to make an enemy out of your neighbour. Have fun with that when he starts pooper scooper lobbing the dog poo into your yard...

A***hole neighbour hit my car

Postby cherrymx5 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 9:57 am

Excuse me but this is my neighbour and he is elderly. I did not behave in the least bit aggressively towards him, no matter what language I wrote here..
However his blatant lying given that it was as clear as day given the marks on the cars gives me the right to be angry when elderly or not he lies to my face when all I asked for was the truth..
The last thing I need are trolls with nothing better to do than be argumentative for the sake of it!

I was fuming when I wrote the post, and to be honest thought other enthusiasts would understand the frustration.
Honesty is seriously underrated.. I personally can own up when making an error.. Seems that some people just aren't capable of being accountable.

And Mr Morlock, that's some fine "Detective" work there, maybe you should be ASS igned to the case given that you can spot these small details in written text.. Honestly..
