My other half told me there was a few MX5's at IWMAC on Sunday. I'll be back at IWMAC on 03/04/16 with Drivemasters https://www.facebook.com/events/935236219901582/, however depending on how things go possibly 21/02/16. I need to look at the air box to see how much dust came in and possibly find a source of clean air for the dirt track.

Just clean your filter before and after every event. Should definitely go to the autocross on 21st.

Back at the dirt today with a MCA hosted test and tune and we decided to do this...

Changing the rear Spring rate from 6kg to 5. Will see how it goes.

Will also be changing the bigger front sway bar back to stock.

So at the last dirt day the exhaust headers broke. I got them out had them fixed but could never be bothered reinstall them. Since then I've been tooing and froing about what to do.

This evening I made a decision and this happened. Image

It's time to move on, there will be a few parts going up for sale in the future...

Day two: engine is out, seats out power steer half out. AC is going to wait on trying to get it degassed properly.

Found out my cat has no internals left. Must have been all that power.

Also found the passenger engine mount in this condition

Still lots of work stripping stuff out to go.

wait, so what is the grand plan motor wise? I presume you didn't pull it out just to swap a motor mount.

Grand plan is...
Image

Which based on what info we could get is:

Block sonic tested
Everything is studded, head, mains etc
Torque plate bored and honed
RB25 skybus pistons (86mm) – Fly Cut, ~ 12:1 compression, said needs to be tuned safely.
B6 turbo rods, gudgeon pin machined/honed to match Skyboat pistons
Steel oil pump gears
Hydraulic lifters
Cams – similar or same profile to L1 cosworth cams. (Guessing in the order of 300 degree, 10mm lift)

It's a bit of an unusual build but hopefully lives up to its potential.

While this is happening the car will go on a diet (AC and power steer), have some maintenance items attended and upgrade the sensors and data logging on the ecu. Much of the gear was sitting waiting on me making and effort and I've been delaying while trying to decide if I'll keep the car.

I was looking at selling up this and the daily and buying a 911, e46 m3 or fd rx7 for a nice road car.

Plan is to stop trying to keep this as a dual purpose car and let it be more track oriented. Ironically it'll also be going back to being my only car.

So pending on the new engine arriving and performing, the mazdaspeed kit, headers, head and cams may be up for sale.

Shipping was included in the negotiated sale price :). I think it's about 200 for an engine depot to depot with e-go though.
