Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Turn it into a motorised esky, which just happens to also fit tyres and tools on it.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Did some more work on the pit trolley, as well as changed the rotors/pads on the front. The pads were stuffed, interesting that there was no drop of in performance on the track. Should of changed them BEFORE the general practice session. Going to WInmax 6.5's on the rear next since it is no longer road going and the brake basis has been installed.
Trolley, added some gal sheet metal to the top shelf, as well as some tie down points low down and a slide on table (to be squared up).

Brakes... The T3's are at a thickness of 21.4mm each so will send them away to be cleaned up. The old EBC's are on as they have just over 1mm of wear left in them. 2 other sets of OEM rotors have almost 1mm of wear left. These T3's have been through 1 set of W5's and a set of W6.5's plus heaps of track punishment so happy with the wear. Took the time to grease the slider pins. Need to take a bit more care in pre track check. Plan will be to remove the pads and measure the wear before each event.
Right side. The inside pad wore the most.

I would say from this that there was a lot of heat down there, the piston has made an indent in the pad. May have to think about installing the spare set of calipers.

This 'esky' was being used to 'tow' this Mini out at Wondai.

could be handy if your '5 needs a tug in the pits?

Sounds like a mod that could be done, may have to build a MKII version and include drive and steering
.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
your trolley (Mk I?
) looks great.
And thanks for putting me on to the Winmax W3's - have been great for my purposes, massive improvement. If I venture to a set of soft A050's I think I will now be able to make the most of them

Yahoo, another reduction in time on the Sprint, down to 1:00.8356. Seat time is king! 4 x blue mx5'S at the street sprints today. A stock 1.6 mariner blue was doing 65's!

Good work, Mark! I'm glad to hear the seat time is paying off (who knew
)
Can you identify what you're doing differently now that's accounting for the drop, or is it simply learning the limits better and better?

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Braking later and less, carrying more corner speed. However change in tyres and suspension setup made the former achievable. Also, repetition getting the brake points right, washing off just enough speed, remembering the turn in speeds. I think I have little more speed to find in T1/T2 and a few other places, however being able to 'feel' and 'understand' what the car is doing helps. Today I did not tweak the settings or even check the tyre pressures, just drove the car and relaxed

I watched the line you took and decided to give it a go, worked! Looking at the logs (again) previously I was too far to the right and as Trackphotos has been saying get more to the left and treat it as a straight line.
Benjamin Croft will get the $15 trophy as has finished fastest every round. Finding another 3 seconds this year (or ever) will be pushing it, however after October going to try Hankook Ventus TD (Z221) or Ventus Z214 and see what I can do.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
The dipper is after T2, you're referring to the crossover entering T6 Mark. The dipper is best done as far right as possible, the crossover does seem to be quickest using a straight line approach. It's hard to tell with the camera angle but it looks like there might still be another half a car width on the right that you could make use of through the dipper, for the sake of a slightly earlier power on to the middle straight.

Re: The Roadster NA Journey Begins
Whilst having to settle into married life, felt the urge to spend the weekend in the shed ticking off some jobs that have yet to be started.
1. general clean up
2. Put front suspension back on the shell
3. Start rear diffuser mock up.
Jobs 1 and 2 were for Saturday, job 3 for Sunday.
Diffuser...
Put the rear bumper back on, the damage was not caused by me

Cross piece, this will be used to vary the angle of the diffuser.

Getting marked up for cutting

Bumper cut and frame being test fitted. AN excuse to use the cleco clamps.

Test fit with some solid cardboard. Angle is about 20°

Aluminium frame is held together with cleco clips, very handy little items.

Next weekend is to bend up some thin sheet metal to form the main part of the diffuser, then mock up the area behind the wheels. Plan is to remove the metal aft of the rear wheels and have the air come straight out.
Will also mock up a diffuser for about 10°.
