Dann, 450hp? His car is well over one ton.

Congratulations. I already have a small list of CF bits that I'd buy from you. Hope you get the time to do some production runs

NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun

MrsB wrote:Dann, Beavis and Lightyear - we should invite Nick Cancian as well and all have a run in the Cue sports 1 hour at Phillip Island in late november to see who is the fastest. Maybe also invite Dave Raddatz with his turbo car to come and play as well - that is pretty much all the fastest 5's in the country at one meeting at the same time. All of these cars also run BP motors so would be a great comparison (and we might all embarrass some supposedly faster stuff for some extra bragging rights).

I like your thinking! If that happens, I will be there to see it

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Congrats on the time, shows how much difference a couple of well thought out Aero mods makes on a circuit like PI!
Out of interest did you find the percentage improvement in time between Winton and PI when you put the Aero on to be a big gap?
Also interesting to see how a thread demonstrating the effectiveness of Aero turned into a power discussion, shows the differences in approaches..

The other cars have aero. So we are discussing the differences, driveline development.
The car id bring has a flat floor, no roof or windscreen, cabin tonneau, diffuser, modified fascia and a big alloy wing off of a dirt track car.

Re: Australia's fastest MX5 @ Phillip Island
I would say the aero alone is 3 seconds at p.i. The best it did with no turbo, front and rear spoilers was 1:52.2. With double the HP, and splitter/wing it is now into the 1:43's. The 1:52.2 was a good lap, so that was as fast as that car could go at the time. The best lap this car can do now is probably a high 1:42. So close to 10 seconds.

Re: Australia's fastest MX5 @ Phillip Island
bout time you finished that race car dave - if you are bringing that i'll have to fix the box so i can tune the motor to make proper power - sounds like it's game on then and yes we will be into the 30's round the island

Re: Australia's fastest MX5 @ Phillip Island
If you are building a box, let me know. I will need one too, then the motor can be tuned back to its full power. You are in the same boat as me, can make big HP, but need to detune until the driveline can take it.

Need to get down there to challenge it but it is proving difficult unfortunately. I would love to give it a go and I think Todd Herrings car would give it a run for its money.

Re: Australia's fastest MX5 @ Phillip Island
What is the N/A record at PI for a MX5?
I'd love to run PI... would be awesome. Such a shame it's 3000km away! I have to get my act together and build a transport vehicle to lug my car and family over there.
For reference I always compare my time delta to Aussie racing cars to see what my estimated lap time would be on other tracks. The Aussie cars don't have massive straightline speed but decent cornering just like my car so they are similar on other tracks and good for time predictions.
At Barbagallo, an Aussie racing car lap record is a 65 second lap which is 1 second quicker than my PB. Aussie car lap record at PI is a 1:46.6 so I recon I'd be at 1:47 - 1:48 probably as a guesstimate. Probably pretty close given the lap record for Improved Production U2l is 1:45.

450hp !!!!! We got nowhere near that! But I'm always Keen!!!! BRING ON MX5 NATIONALS!!!! That will flush them out. Power figures mean nothing if you don't get to the chequered flag first, trust me I know! You can have the fastest Mx5, but are you the fastest Mx5 driver ???
I can't wait to have a go at Phillip island!!!! Looks epic
