Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Is it just the camera or is there puffs of smoke that come through the passenger side bonnet vent from time to time? I've noticed it in a few of your recent videos.
Also why did you replace the carbon/glass splitter that you moulded up?

Smoke does come out of the bonnet vent, it's like a train. I replaced the front spoiler to suit the rules in Clubsprint class.

Possible turbo oil seals or leaks of oil on to the manifold from Mazda's truly dreadful attempt at designing a turbo oil drain pipe. Or even a tiny pinprick hole in a heater hose. Guess why I'm able to suggest these options?

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
The smoke is coming from the breather on the catch can, so smoke coming from the rocker cover hose. It's always done it since the first track day after the turbo went on. It's a bad habit, but I think the car is addicted. I could buy it some gum or try hypnosis.
Falcon guy thought he would pass me on the outlap. And I can understand why. It's the only time he will ever pass me:)

Patches on each arm and cut down to 20 a day. Worked for me.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
You have to hand it to Mazda. The car was doing 7 lap sessions at full pace without overheating or any issues today at Phillip Island. My biggest problem is it takes me 2 laps to get the confidence to really lean on it into the fast corners. But by then I have caught the back of the pack. I kept going as fast as I could, even with traffic. It's still fun, just no good lap times. Best today was a 1:43.8 again. I did manage to get my minimum top speed to over 200km/h at T1. So that was good. And exciting...
I was all pumped to go out in the 3rd session as the sun had been out for an hour or so. But then there was parade laps, and lunch, and a recovery in the previous group. Then the clouds rolled in and it started to very lightly rain as we went out. Still, can't complain. I was the 2nd fastest car of the day, and there was some pretty insane WRX's there practicing for the Subinats tomorrow.
And the guy that wants to do a documentary on my car turned up and put his camera with data logging into the car. But it was the session with light drizzle unfortunately. Best lap was 1:44.2 in that session I think.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Even my paltry 1:53.5 is made to look good compared to those Astons and Ferraris. Their drivers must feel pretty foolish if they look at your times. If I could afford one of those cars I'd spend some time at test and tune days so my times weren't made public until I could go at least as quickly as Paul Ledwith and Russell Garner in normally aspirated MX-5s.
Can you please stop spinning in front of me on out-laps?

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
I was using the synthetic grass on the exit of T4 last weekend. But in the morning it was wet and caused a lack of adhesion. But my recovery was pretty cool. Will have to upload the video. I don't think I lost more than a second after doing a full 360. You might be referring to my "drift" on exit of T10. Cold tyres will do that.

Wow, absolutely smashed two 458's two m3's and an m4.
To be fair, if I was driving the Ferrari I'd be too scared to scratch it, or spill my cappuccino, or bump the girl leaning over from the passenger seat by going to fast.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
The Subinats was on today, some of the best WRX's from across the country attended. Only two cars went quicker. It shows the WRX needs a lot more money compared to an MX5.
They looked cool.

If they took the subwoofers out of their boots they might be a fair bit quicker.
