I have now done about 800klm in my 1.5 ND Roadster including a club run in South Gippsland yesterday.As someone who wasn't that keen on the ND I thought i would share some impressions.Car has just over 2000 klms on and is being run stock.
+++++
great economy,5.1 on the 200 klm run to the start yesterday,6.0 overall including some spirited driving in the hills;
Best seats in any Mx5 i have sat in,really comfortable in over 8 hours use.
Gearbox is NA good,never any baulking in the shift pattern and beautiful action.
Goes better than you have any right to expect , no troubl e keeping up with the pack(maybe the 79RWKW I got on the dyno last week works in practice) Typical NA6 on the same dyno is around 64-67 RWKW.Gearing not as big an issues as i thought,dyno figures suggest that what torque there is available fron around 2800 rpm even though peak is at 4800.Power siniliar as good from 3000 on even though peak is at 7000.
Handles really well and feels lighter and more communicative than the NB and NC's I have dríven.Didn't notice the initial "lean then settle)" that i thought was there on my test drive.Perhaps just got used to it.
Exhaust is quiet but quite sporty.
Car is quiet at cruise.
Bluetooth is good.
---------
Steering wheel is horrible,too thin, too hard, too slippery,had to wear gloves!!
Storage space in cabin is not good.
Design attracts crap down the side of the car even in drizzle, far more than any other MX.
Not sure about performance of the standard Yoko's,will reserve judgement on that( Had a set of 17's fitted up with Michelin Pilot Sports but they wrongly fitted 205/40/17 instead of 45's!!! So standard set up for now.)
Door pulls are really small,not easy to use.
Still not sure about some of the styling elememts and thefront treatment,may age quickly.
OVERALL Very pleasantly surprised and think that any NA owner would love the feel and performance of this car.swapped with a mate in a beautiful low klms NB8B with Bilstein pss9's and a good exhaust and it felt big and heavy.He was surprised by the performance and handling of the ND.
