Trung - Introducing my nb8a
Hi I'm Trung from Melbourne.
I'd like to introduce myself to you all as I'm only new to the Mazda MX5 scene.
The car is a 1998 nb8a in Silver which I've owned now for about 2 months. It will be my dedicated track car in which I have purchased to fulfill, refine my motorsport passion and meet people like minded along the way.
I had my first track day end of last year and haven't looked back. It was in my daily which is a Honda Civic Type FN2. Since then I've sold my other daily (S2000) to fund my budget track car.
My car:
Purchased stock, clean with a set of 17" wheels on.
Track preperations in the short time I've owned her have been.
Engine oil change with full synthetic Shell.
Transmission oil change with Redline.
Differential oil change with Redline.
Brake fluid flush/change with Redline.
MSD Platinum plugs
Front brake rotors DBA T3
Front pads - QFM comp 9
Rear pads - QFM hpx
Exhaust - Custom stainless steel headers back, high flow cat with Magna flow muffler.
Intake - Ebay job
Removed unwanted weight including carpets, liners, spare wheel and tools, double din dvd screen, speakers, softop and seats.
Brown Davis Roll bar
Hardtop with perspex window. In the process of being resprayed in a dark metallic grey
15 x 7 Mazdaspeed wheels
NEW Nangkang AR1'S 205/50/15 Semi slicks
On order and in transit atm are 2 x Sparco Sprint V fixed back seats combined with 4 point Sabelt Harnesses
BC BR coil overs with spring rates changed to F9kg R6kg
I look forward to speaking with everyone and gaining as much knowledge on the Miata as possible as I have minimal knowledge on them. The list of mods have just been through little research online and advice from a few people that I have spoken to on the way. Thank you.
I aim to make the first track appearance at a fun day at Winton so that I can ease her into her duties along my journey. This will be followed up with the August Tampered motorport track day at Sandown 2 weeks after that. Etc....etc....
That concludes my introduction. Thanks for listening and I hope that my noob questions along the way won't annoy you veterans too much..
Thanks in advanced.
Cheers

Welcome.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: Trung - Introducing my nb8a
First mod should be to sell it and buy an NB8B. That is unless you don't care about lap times and building a relatively quick car on a low budget. NB8A will always cost more to do the same lap times even with the initial price being higher on the NB8B.

Just speaking the truth is all.
If it's not about getting good lap times, then ignore my post.

Re: Trung - Introducing my nb8a
Welcome Trung
I have also bought an NB8A this year. Mine is for DD & weekend fun driving.
Will be interested to hear how you find the Sprint V's. I am currently thinking about either them or Velo Milano
Cheers

Re: Trung - Introducing my nb8a
Hey guys. Lightyear! I do care about lap times in my car and what I drive. I'll be working on my driving skills and working on earning skills and not buying them too much.
For sure the nb8b would of been a beeter platform but this is what fell into my hands at the time.
If I just wanted lap times I would of keept my Honda S2000 but my focus is more on refining my driving.
So... that being said. I am going to the fun day because I want to mainly give my car a run in after all my mods and see how she drives. It's not registered so I have literally dríven it only for 15min. Fun day will only cost me $40 and a trailer for the day. I have a few mates up too.
After the day I will have a 2 week period to refine and tune it for Sandown. Anyone up for that?

Re: Trung - Introducing my nb8a
Hey all just updating my build progress as it's been awhile. I have been posting in other threads and unfortunately they've all been reaching out for advice and help. I thought I'll give something back to the website and post some pictures and so forth as everyone always like to see.
Attached pics are of stage one before the fun/not so fun day at Winton not so long ago. But I'll explain later...
It's been a very resourceful website mx5cartalk.com has been.
I'm very thankful to all that has helped me with the answers to my questions.
A massive learning experience so far....
Cheers

The mazdaspeed ms01r rims look neat in white on your car mate. Good to see maintenance and suspension work being the first on the to do list.
