PC's ND 1.5/NC2 dyno figures

Postby pcmx5 » Thu Jun 23, 2016 3:07 pm

Did a dyno run to establish a base to compare upcoming exhaust mods today.Given it has a claimed 96KW at the flywheel I was pleasantly surprised that it made 79.2 RWKW on Dalton Automotive's Dyno Dynamics dyno.My stock NC2 made 91 RWKW on the same dyno but had much more torque (approx 300 tractive more).

It would seem that Mazda has got more effective at cutting power train loss or their factory claims are more realistic as over a few years at VIC Club dyno days NA's/NB's were losing about 28-30% of their claimed output at the wheels.

I'd suggest the latter as the true reason...

No, according to "The Internetz", power train losses have been minimised in the ND (which you'd expect/demand 12 years after the last NB was produced).

Curious was 4th Gear used out of habit or 6th gear as it's now the 1:1 gear on an ND ?

5th gear in the NC,79.2 in 6th for the ND.also did a 5th gear run in the ND which gave 81.4 but max tractive went from about 1750 (6th) to about 2100 (5th).It will be interesting to see what happens when the Town and Country trial starts, hopefully done tomorrow and a good run over the WE and then back on the dyno. Will update.

Peter.

Ps NC T&C's went up to 94 RWKW but decided on 92RWK odd for its better midrange given the NC is not a fan of revs.

Not sure if you'd want to try to get a stock ND to the sort of speed that gets you to the top of 6th since you'd be deep into the 200's.

Quite right.Which is why he did a run in 5th! Ran out of speed calibration on the dyno at 210 klms per hour( It is about 40 klph per 1000 revs in 6 th), for me it isn't about ultimate power but having a basis to measure the effect of the exhaust changes.

1,5 has max torque @4800rpm and power @ 7000 rpm on Mazda's figures.Max torque on my run in 6th arrived at about130 klph so about 3300rpm.Power curve was still rising @ 200 klph.

If anyone can post photos from mob phone pm me your number and I will take a photo of run and send it to you.

On the dyno today with new rear exhaust.MAX power that same but a slight increase in midrange power (2RWKW)and torque.Sounds much better though.

These are similiar results to that I got recently with my NC and it may be that the real power is in changing the midpipe which is what happened with the NC and obviously the headers which I haven't done on either car.
