NA Retractor Relay issue

Postby Dweezle » Mon Jun 13, 2016 12:30 pm

Hi all.

A NA with Headlights that turn on and off but do not go Up or Down is bothering me currently.

I have no idea when they last worked or if anything has been done to make this an issue but i have pulled what i believe to be the Retractor Relay from under the Steering wheel.

I pulled the Relay Casing apart and i noticed a bad section on the PCB.

Could this be the issue??
Electrics are not my strong suit :)

Could i just join these with a piece of wire and solder to test??

Would anyone also know the Pin Allocation to test with a multimeter? ?
Any help much appreciated.

Does the headlight button (above the hazard switch) work? Test with a multi meter that it is getting the correct voltage.

This may help
•Measure the voltage at the retractable headlight relay terminals as indicated below.
•Disconnect the retractable headlight relay connector before checking for continuity at terminal D.
•If not as specified, inspect the parts listed under "Inspection area" and the related wiring harnesses.
•If the parts and wiring harnesses are okay but the system still does not work properly, replace the retractable headlight

Thanks for the reply.

The tombstone button does nothing also.
The hazard light does work though.

I will get behind that and have a look today.
From memory if that connector is not seated then the lights revert to OPEN/UP.

They are just dead.

I can manually wind them up and down.
So they have no power getting to them as when i have done this to others they quickly go up and down electrically.

I will also try and find my mutimeter to check a few things and try and see what is going on.

From memory I have a spare relay at home, plus since I do not have pop ups anymore I maybe able to remove the relay from mine with no impact. Will test this next weekend.

Thanks Magpie.

Looking at that diagram you posted the break on my PCB appears to be "H" (retractor switch on/off).

That sounds promising that the issue is the relay.

Try a dab of solder and see if that works...

Well i tried my fix and i ended up unfortunately letting all the smoke out upon plugging it back in...

Oooops.

Maybe it was already dead and thats why it was messed up to start with??

Next to try the multimeter on the connection in the car and find a replacement to try again.
