Got pretty excited last night when I found cheap RPF01s on Ebay from a wrecker. However, I soon realised they are fake (well, 99% sure anyway).
Who can tell how I knew?

Re: Spot the fake
The standard marks are wrong. There's three of them when there should only be two.
Good spot.
Good spot.

Yep, that's one of the ways. There's another fairly easy one

Spoke thickness? Comparing to photos of real ones and they seem to have slimer spokes.

Re: Spot the fake
The face is just 'not quite right' in general. The fakes do stick out.

Re: Spot the fake
AFAIK Enkei do not make centre caps for 15in RPF1s.
I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Thought so (so could never be opposite the valve) and that sticker isn't even lined up in the middle of the gap between the spokes.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: Spot the fake
Do they actually say Enkei on the wheel anywhere other than the sticker on the face?
Most wheel manufacturers will either cast their name into the wheel (on the back most often) or will apply a heavy duty sticker to the inside barrel listing manufacturer, specs, etc.
Most Japanese wheel companies tend to use the stickers rather than the stampings.
regardless, that wheel doesnt look right, i'd suspect it's an "Enkei RPF1 style" wheel rather than the real thing.
I presume you paid a fair price and didn't pay top dollar for the real (original) item?
