As anyone who has fitted a CAI to an SE would know, there's a few more noises coming from under the bonnet. The sporty growl of the intake and the whistle of the turbo are awesome, but the BPV blowback noise annoys me.

So I thought I'd see if I could muffle it a bit.

Removed the intake box and covered the inside with Dynamat.

Image

Also covered the inside of intake box lid and resprayed it as there were a few scratches needed touching up.

Image

I also laid some on the fender to ensure as much as the interior of the airbox was insulated as possible.

Took it for a drive ... and ... it made no difference whatsoever :?

... so took most of it out again ...

... and as a postscript ... a note to self ... tighten the clamps properly on the turbo hoses!! Blew the hose off that goes from the turbo outlet pipe when accelerating hard between corners on a twisty hill section on the weekend ...

My understanding is that dynamat will reduce the vibration in the panel, but not do much to absorb sounds. So it's great if you're getting NVH from rattles in the panel and other vibrations, but not much good if the sound is being transmitted from another source. You'll need something like a Mass Loaded Vinyl (http://www.soundproofingproducts.com.au/go/mass-loaded-vinyl-clearance/), or a foam of some sort.

I'm interested to see how you go with it, I think there's capacity to quiet things down a little, while not completely muting the intake.

Yeah you're completely right. I had some old Dynamat lying around from back when I used it on Mexie's doors, so figured may as well try it ... wished I'd thought it out a bit more when I had to clean the sticky goop off

Thanks for that link. Sounds more like what I want. Will do some actual research this time and update further....

Hey Scott! Saw you'd taken a deposit on your's! Sad for now, but you'll enjoy being a Dad! ... and should be a good choice of quality ND's on the market when you're ready for just two seats again

Hardly dríven mine for quite a while. Was going to take a few photos on the drive on the weekend, but got rather distracted with the self inflicted turbo hose issue

Well I did manage to fit a 205GTi hatch in amongst our family cars for a short while. The lack of rear doors got to me in the end. Two doors with kids drove me nuts!

The paint surface has been feeling a bit rough lately, so as all our plans fell through today, I decided to grab a clay bar and get stuck into it.

Nothing like that smooth, shiny, post clay bar look and feel ...

I'd prefer one of the brushed ones, but they don't come up very often. Not confident in trying to use a chrome one and scuff that for a similar effect. I'm also never quite sure if they actually stand out too much on red cars.

Looks awesome Kev
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I thought the NBSE comes with the aluminium/chrome fuel lid? I got mine off a VRSE and it looked OEM to me (it's a better built than the other one I bought off a forum member and subsequently sold). Parting out with the car, interested kev?

SP's came with one but not the SE.

Is your's polished or brushed finish, can't remember. I'm kinda holding for some other bits at the moment, but drop me a pm and maybe a photo and I'll see. Always a sucka for new bits
