Genuine 1993 Rod Millen MX5 only 1 of 2 Australian issue

Postby coupekid » Thu May 26, 2016 3:15 am

Hi ...back in 1993 my 1 of 2 Australian issued Rod Millen Huntington Beach MX5 mazda Roadster as sold by Mazda dealership sold new for $43000..The dealership had it spinning on a turntable in showroom back in 1993... now with 59000km how much is it worth now ? When People see it they ask if its the latest model ..Ijust wonder how many Genuine Rod Millen MX5s were issued worldwide with this signature & scripting ? ...for the right price I maybe interested to sell this rare beauty ! :) its a one owner car & comes with Glass rear window & wears Black leather car bra too !! A real head turner !!

I had a Rod millen kit on mine leather seats & so on but mine is a 89. Not sure if it was added after or weather the dealer put it on when purchased originally.

Pics tell a trillion words.

This is the way to do it. I use Photobucket, it's fairly simple to use, and provides copy and paste links for forums, as well as offers some basic editing tools.

Sounds just like a car fitted with a kit by a Mazda dealer..

I never knew of a Ltd edition Rod Millen Mx5 or of its existence.
However Ive always been aware of the body kit which was available for them.
If it has a special number & special mention in the original purchase documents the might be something in it.

Mine came with Front & rear spoiler Front mudfalps & colour coded sills. To make it look lower maybe. It also came with aircon leather seats, headrest spekers auto entry & alarm.

But most of that would probably have beenb optinal extras at the time.

Is yours an NA8?

Mazda MX-5 Miata: The book of the World's Favourite Sportscar by Brian Long in 2006 mentions the US Rod Millen offering on p95 in The MX-5 'Industry' chapter. It then says: 'The package was sold in Australia under the Racing Dynamics name.'
Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Portfolio 1989-1997 contains the 4 page Australian Modern Motor article on the Racing Dynamics (headed by Rod Millen) MX-5.

So is it just a stock car with a body kit or what?

The Racing Dynamics MX-5 NA that was the subject of the Australian Modern Motor article was all cosmetic except for exhaust & suspension mods. OP's car specs unknown, but imagine it's the aforementioned, given it's an NA, & presumably RHD.

Believe that's the US kit - Australian kit was slightly different, ie different wheels & tyres etc, & the car Modern Motor tested in Australia was red.

yea I found it on a US site. I figured that the body panels were the same at least. They also talk about springs....but that's in the US.

Yeah, thicker front & rear sway bars (F: 25.4mm & R: 19.1mm) with adjustable end links & better end link bushings, & stiffer springs which lower front by 25mm & rear by 19mm. 15x7 Venette V5 wheels with Yokohama 008 195/50ZR15 tyres. Recaro Proffi seats & Momo Systima steering wheel - Momo leather gear knob was considered, but thought too big, so original retained. New two piece exhaust system, & of course body kit comprising: front lip spoiler, side skirts, deck cover, rear wheel arch extensions, rear spoiler & front Racing Dynamics badge).
