Paint Leveller

Want to have a crack a fixing a couple of paint scratches on my car. Can feel them with my fingernail, so deeper than just the clear coat. I don't own a polishing machine, so don't want to get into wet sanding and polishing etc. Looking to slowly layer up paint and clear coat, and then use a paint leveller to take off the excess. Never heard of it before but came across it in a couple of Youtube clips.

Worth trying or just snake oil? Anyone know where to get it locally or a suitable substitute?

Looks just like any other paint, only they supply you the thinners separately.

Since the car paint is long cured, and the new stuff is still tacky, the thinners can more easily remove the fresh paint.
I'd not want to leave it on too long, or rub too hard though.


As for the wetsand method, you only need a machine if you're doing large areas.
Wetsanding you always want to do by hand (FAR less risk of sanding through the lot)
and polishing just takes longer by hand (not so much an issue for a small area)

I reckon if you want to have a go then by all means do it. You could also do a little more research to see what others do to fix scratches. The problem essentially is that a scratch needs to be re levelled and its not easy. I would have thought that if the scratch is filled say using a fine brush ( you can do this by more than one application and then left to harden then it should be possible to wet and dry it and polish or just use a hand rub compound - but see if others do it that way. PS putting a clear coat back on the area should be easier enough with pressure can. Interested to see how you go
