Re: Dave's SE - REBORN
Have a look at AP Racing set up as well. Mark may be able to chip in as well.

Re: Dave's SE - REBORN
the yellowspeeds come in 3 sizes - 286mm x 26mm disk for 15inch wheel 304mm x 26mm disk for 16 inch wheel and 330x32mm disk for 17 inch wheel
and there is NO need for bigger rear brakes full stop - you are wasting your money.

Re: Dave's SE - REBORN
I was a big believer that the oem brakes work fine. But once you double the horsepower the heat created is too much for them. A couple of laps at Sandown saw both front bearings gone, and a pair of melted hub centric rings. My other car has 32mm thick rotors, but not large, so still fit inside 15" wheels. Should put that car together one day so I can see how they work. The cheap Willwoods on my silver car don't seem to be working that well. Will make up brake ducts and bleed the ABS pump to see if that helps. I have the same issue, it won't lock a wheel or kick in the ABS. It does brake ok, but when you really brake late, the brakes won't stop quick enough and forces the car to miss the apex.

I ran that Willwoood kit and never really liked it. I now run the Yellowspeed 6 pots with the 286 mm disc and Hawk Blue pads under 15's and it is like night and day. The disc thickness goes from 22-28mm (from memory) and dissipates the heat much better. Probably too well as it well melt centrecaps and my mechanic needed gloves to take the valve caps off to check tyre pressures after 6 laps, need to find better hats. Going to the 330mm disc will require 17's which is one of the great can of worms on this forum
I am coming down to the clubs interstate challenge later in the year, hopefully we will see you and some other quick Victorian cars there?
Now that, Chops, is really interesting, and is probs about to cost me some money. Best source for the Yellowspeeds? PM'd you about your tyres by the way.
Hey, Owen, I'm sure Chops has double checked this but as a triple check, is it correct that you need 17s with the 330s?
Yes, it's a hoot. Yes, should be at interstate challenge.
I will be looking to get 15x8's mainly cause I can get the street legal grippier tyres from a really good group of mates who hit the track regularly as well as a cousin who is into the really serious amateur racing (soon as Im in a place down the line where I have more time to start the track play they already have me penciled in!)- so at this stage I'm really liking the sound of the 6 pot yellowspeed 286mm's at the moment (cheers chops). I love the look of 17's rims and the fact or getting bigger rotors in but long term cost and availability of quality rubber at a good price to fit 15's is too much to pass up. I understand that at one stage the willwoods were good kit but, and this is coming from some of mechanic Daz's buddys that run ridiculously powerful rex's, willwood quality control and manufacture process have gone well downhill lately and are just being made for price, these guys running the rex's are now looking at others like brembro ($$$$$) and AP's (I checked them out too Bear2230). Great food for thought on them brakes folks. Still seeking words of wisdom on them roll hoops.
