Thanks to everybody for making it a fun day. A very suspension orientated day. However did a gearbox and diff oil change, advanced some timing, fixed a broken bracket and other odd jobs.

Good to see old and young helping out each other. What more could be said good company good food and MX5's.

Shame I missed this, you guys got the pick of the weather for it.

Definitely check your Accelerator pedals. While it's fun for five minutes, it gets tedious using a shoelace tied to the end of the cable to get yourself home when the pedal snaps off completely.
Here's a broken one I bought from Magpie, I reinforced and rebuilt it for a forum member and replaced it on Friday . The difference is night and day once its back together with all the pivots and bushes greased, it also copped a coat of paint.
Takes about 2hrs all up to replace and it's not going to break in a hurry.

Steampunk, I owe you replacement Nulon. Sorry for not fixing you up on the day.

I still haven't been able to get anything completed by myself. My spanner work is getting slightly better but my adjustable spanner results are appalling :frown:

My resulting grinding work to try to rectify my rounding of a square ended bolt was probably candidate for dodgiest thing of the day. :twisted:

Good to see that my 'chin scratching' was caught on camera :wink:

Though in reality this was happening a lot of the time.

Having said that Dodgy Days are great!
I'm getting to see my car from all angles and understand a lot more. I'm able to attempt jobs that I'd like to eventually be able to do myself and realising that some of these are never really going to be easily done as a one man job. There's always someone willing to jump in and get you through that frustrating point that would otherwise leave you without transport for days.

How'd the timing change work out? I got inspired and bought that Ebay timing light/techo thing, will have a crack at it in the coming weeks.

I think we settled somewhere between 13 and 14 degrees once everything was tightened back up.
My "bum dyno" is useless. Can't say I noticed too much difference on the drive home but it was mostly on unfamiliar roads. I did seem to get some funny noises at one stage (though I was shattered by then) so will be keeping an eye on it.
Think I might be tweaking the idle for a while too. There seemed to be a lot of movement / adjusting with that so interested to see how it behaves in daily driving.

Having said that I'm not planning much driving this week until heading over to Mt Cotton on Saturday for the hillclimb.

Looking back it might have been a good idea to let someone more experienced take it for a before and after run.
Your previous experiences with taking a familiar bit of road (climb after Jindalee bridge) as a judge of improvement is another great idea that I've unfortunately not had the forethought to consciously register so as to be able to compare.
