Over the last 6 months I have been struggling to find a seat to replace the stock passenger seat, after installing an agi roll bar I am finding that the passenger seat simply cant push back enough for it to be even semi comfortable. The top of the head rest fouls on the roll bar. I would love to throw in another sparco sprint and call it a day but as the mrs has a fairly substantial bum its out of the question. I am really at a loss to what I can do.
I have read of people widening sparco sprints but im really not sure how wide you could get one to go. Does anyone know if theres a difference height wise between the standard se seats and the na ones? I did see a picture of two side by side ages ago and the na seat looked to be a little shorter. Other than that im all out of ideas, would any else be able to shed some light on the matter? At the end of the day it just needs to be semi comfortable and not feel like your knees are your chest.
Seats that large bum can fit into and still clear an agi rollbar?

What seats are currently in there?
of the stock seats the NB8B were the tallest headrest wise.
The NA6, NA8, and NB8A were all pretty much the same height, headrest wise (give or take a little)
I'm shocked the seats hit an AGI bar, when a friend had one in his car there was plenty of room from headrest to bar, to the point that I was constantly belting my head on the bar.

Here is a response I received from Velo when asking about seats for a NA6 and the ability to swap out between the Sparcos if the Velo was not ADR approved.
Hi Mark,
The only seat we have to fit the MX5 is the GPT 1 ( FIA / ADR approved ) which is still quite a tight fit, a previous customer fitted a GPT2 but some trim was removed. Any Velo set is suitable for use with a Hans device no problem. With the mounting you should be able to adapt the Velo side mounts to what you are currently using with the Sparco without too many issues. Please let me know if you require any further information.

^ This, and which series mx5? Thread is useless without pics and measurements... (potential for so many jokes to be made, but I guess it is a delicate subject, so no farting around).

Re: Seats that large bum can fit into and still clear an agi rollbar?
so if I understand correctly, your wife is also fairly tall as the real problem lay in the stock seat's BACK is too thick to allow it to move all the way back and still have ample leg room.
So with the thinner Sparco Sprint, it's able go back far enough because the seat back is considerably thinner. She doesn't mind the upright position.
Is your wife taller than 6'5"? A friend is just over 6' and he always moves the passenger seat several notches forward from all the way back so he's comfortable in being able to place his feet on the firewall.
I haven't been in an Autobarn for years, but they used to have quite a variety of seats on display that you can try. Supercheap has a few.
Maybe perform a "foamectomy" (google it) on the stock seat's back.

Two things: Replace the AGI with another bar that allows the seat to travel further. Lower the seat - foamectomy, bolt it to the floor, take out the humps, a few options there.
The real problem seems to be the trunk/legs ratio. This is often overlooked in statements such as 'my 7 foot mate fits easily'. If head position is a problem, it is because the height above the bum is too tall, overall height is not always the determinant of a problem.
In that case, and if those other things don't give enough room, do you REALLY need a fixed back seat? Moving the seat forward and reclining it may help, if there is some spare room in the footwell.
Have a good look around, both here and on the USA boards, looking at the motorsport areas and using 'broomstick test' as a search term. It is a well worn path you are treading ...

Re: Seats that large bum can fit into and still clear an agi rollbar?
Im really not keen on changing the bar as I'm now on my second, my rear parcel shelf will look like a peice of swiss cheese. Might have to pull out the seat and see what i can do maybe bracket wise . At the momemnt my sprint (drivers) sits just back from the first hump pretty well flat on the floor. Might maybe look in to getting the humps cut out and welded up properly. Thanks for the replies, will report back once the weekend

the AGIs are known to the have the hoop more forward than the rest of the players.
the BD bars are apparently better in this scenario.
youre probably better off getting a semi fixed seat rail in this case. but these are close to the cost of another fixed seat.
