Re: Scribbler - LS1 Powered NA Build
Yep, made great progress. The Spa is finally working, liquid limestone is all done and the landscaper is coming out tomorrow. All the solar panels are back up so I don't have to worry about power bills any more. Also learning to ice skate (because the kids wanted to do lessons and I couldn't be bothered waiting in the stands while they had fun )
Pity bugger all has been done to the car!
Not totally true, we have been doing little detail bits to avoid doing the difficult stuff like the headers:
Replaced the boot lock with a T handle for easy access to the battery
The old headlights were all over the shop, so replacing with projectors. Version 1 was fairly agricultural:
And is being modified by mounting the lights on an ali plate:
Looks noice with the bumper on and gives decent light. Separate high and low beams:
Final plan is to cover the lights with clear perspex shaped like the original indicator.
Hard top has been replaced with a lightyear original:
MGW Camaro short shifter. Compared to this, shifting a perfect condition 5 Speed Mazda box feels like throwing a salami down a hallway!

Also relocating the coil packs to get a bit more clearance between the engine and the clutch master:
And I have the Corvette/Cadillac front pulley, idler and waterpump to move the belt back by 20mm for a bit more radiator clearance.

So the spa will be ready for beers soon?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I've definitely heard that simile before, but it had nothing to do with a gearbox...

As far as I can tell, you have accurately described the only sensible use for it that I can find... so yes.

Clearly, one of us is doing it wrong.

No, but I have progressed to the point of wishing I had taken more care when taking apart and labeling bolts

Re: Scribbler - LS1 Powered NA Build
Has it really been over 2 years since I started this? Damn.
Progress:
Headers are done. Built using 180 degree mandrel bends, I put them together and tacked them got someone that can actually weld to put them together. End result is brilliant (even if I do say so myself).
Intake off the 7 litre Corvette, and the engine looks like it is meant to be there.
Long gear lever is long. MGW Camaro shifter fits directly into the original hole. Made a longer gear lever to slow the shift a bit, hopefully the syncros will thank me. Gear knob will be a bit lower when complete, need to get a M16x1.5 die to recut the thread. Might end up cutting the lever shorter depending on how it feels when driving.
Changed my mind on lights multiple times before settling on ebay fog/driving lights, they fit the indicator slots pretty well.
Currently completing the engine harness wiring, just about ready to start this thing!

Awesome progress mate! Very keen to see this thing fire up.

Chop-chop mister Pete... I would like to see this completed this century if that's not too unreasonable a request.
What kinda bonnet design do you have in mind? Standard but with headlight seams smoothed-in? more pronounced power-bulge?

Re: Scribbler - LS1 Powered NA Build
Bonnet profile will be stock, no clearance issues between the engine and bonnet. Headlight covers will be attached to the guards and have a couple of vertical supports into the engine bay. They stay in place when the bonnet is lifted, that is how they have always been done on this car. I'd probably rather have them attached to the bonnet, but can't justify the $ for new covers right now.

Re: Scribbler - LS1 Powered NA Build
headers look sweet ,
are you going to get them coated/wrapped/painted?
I wouldn't worry to much on the syncros the T56s can take a thrashing in Commodores and live well.
and with the longer stick you can tell what gear you are in too.

Re: Scribbler - LS1 Powered NA Build
How big is the exhaust on this thing? Big enough!
Twin 3" from headers to tips, x pipe in the middle and dynomax straight through "mufflers" at the back. A single system would be lighter, but this is going to sound freakin' awesome.
