NC full system advice

Postby Gavatron1 » Tue Apr 05, 2016 4:58 pm

I am planning on installing a full exhaust system on my NC. I have looked through the forums to find posts however cam not see anything on this. Sorry in advance if I have missed anything.

From some research, I am reading good feedback about the Goodwin racing full system. Has anyone tried these before? Mx5 parts.com.au has the Goodwin and sounds to know what they are talking about. It is pretty expensive which includes the ECU reflash, however if it is overwhelmingly good then the investment is only once. I'd be keen on feedback from those that have delt with them and have gone through e process. More if anyone has advice on other suppliers.

Also does anyone recommend where I can go for fitting in Melbourme? MX5 factory in Rimgwood rates in some forums for earlier MX5 install.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Have you tried Automotive Plus? Danny has built and tested exhaust systems for the NC.

i have a full goodwin exhaust and refresh from MX5-Parts

its transforms the car, you wont be disappointed.

As for install, if you are handy with the tools its pretty easy to install yourself, takes a while but is pretty straight forward.

Not too sure if Chris does the refresh remotely, you may have to send your ECU to him

Thank you for the feedback to all so far.

Great reading from older threads supplied. I'll need to get better to do searching on previous posts. However, as a "newbe" I appreciate the help!

Refresh = reflash I presume, or is this some secret squirrel stuff that is only available to people wearing a grey cardigan?

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Sounds like Goodwin headers with the matching super Q muffler is the business.

Regie have you done your mid Pipe? Can I just weld the O2 sensor bung hole and avoid $800?

yep i originally had the standard mid pipe on my car. I was drunk one night and bought the mid pipe 8)

but yeah get the bung welded in the stock mid pipe and you'll be good to go.

If you are in Syd i have a spare mid pipe at home, come and grab it and ill take your current one for swaps

That's a super kind offer Regie. Thank you. However I am in Vic.

I arranged today for the full exhaust to get done in 6 weeks. Then, I begin the suspension. Then, well, you know how it goes from here.

I finally had the Goodwin full exhaust installed along with the cold air intake... Wow! Huge improvement to the car.. A set of adjustable Koni Shocks over King springs and Sway bars, it's an absolute pleasure to drive.... I also decided to do something about the brake hubs... They were rather ugly to me each time I looked at the wheels. I could always see a rust look that just dressed the little car down so much IMO.. So, the good MX5 factory painted the hubs for me... To match the car... I'm pretty satisfied with the result.. I'm now looking at sorting something in the engine bay. I'd like to dress the area left behind from the OEM air box. Any suggestions would be a welcome.ImageImageImage

I haven't been on this site for ages and just saw your post.
Great work with the mods, they do make a big diffrrence to the NC.
One small warning though from my own experience. Do not drive in rainy conditions where there is the possibility of water on the road over 100mm deep. The cold air intake will ingest the water and bend your rods.
Otherwise you have the best colour ever in the NC. :D

Thank you Charlie Brown.. I will listen to your great advice. I have no plans on driving for too long in the rain, however on planned longer trips it can always creep up on you.

I was fortunate to find this car earlier in the year from QLD. It had 50,000 klm and was a one lady owner. It had been dríven only ever on dry days and was her weekend car. It was kept under blankets in a underground house garage. Every person I have showed can not believe the car is 11 years old. I am yet to meet a same colour.

The ex lady owner cried when it was time for me to drive away. I have offered her to visit and drive again in the future. I too now have the NC as a weekend toy. I have it as a project car that I want to continue transforming and improving with my own likes. I'll keep adding to the history as I go through the changes like many before me have.. I have just replaced gear box oil and diff oil. The gear box now feels smoother than before. IMO it was a little notchy from 1st into 2nd when cold.

I had always wanted to own a Porche 911. I looked at many for over two years. In the end I could not justify the $ on any of the years I wanted. I began opening my mind up to alternatives. These included the Boxter. Great cars! However for the bang for the dollar, the MX5 wins hands down... Whilst driving over the weekend I thought to myself that I was truly driving a car that felt like 10 X its value..
