I think the soft top sized rear window makes it look better especially in side profile.

The wraparound rear glass improves rear vision significantly, even if you don't like it aesthetically.

I prefer it.

The wrap around glass lightens the look and makes it look OEM

the flat glass makes the top look bulky, and like a cheap aftermarket add-on.

Thanks for the thought. We do indeed have several cars going interstate.

917 sales of MX-5 in 2015. All but a handful of those were NDs ... in only five months.

Looks like my prediction is on target so far.

That would have been me. I probably only found the car a bit noisy because I came from a 1-series BMW with all its sound insulation etc.
One observation I would make is that although the wind and engine noise was fine, the tyre noise is quite loud and intrusive on the coarse chip sort of road surfaces that we seem to have all too often on non-urban roads in this country.

Yup, you will get that if you go from a 4 seater with loads of sound insulation and distance between you and the rear wheel arches, to a two seater with the back of the seats virtually level with the wheel arches. It's one of the trade-offs from having a two seater. Strangely, the tyres on the 2.0 seem quieter.

So yeah, that was my day. Can anyone of you fine folk recommend a dealer in Sydney that I could talk to about the ND, and actually would want to take my money?
Cheers!

Please accept my apologies on behalf of the car sales profession. I promise we're not all like that. Have you relayed your experience to Mazda Australia?

So there are now 131 Mazda dealers in the country. 1423 sales/9 months/131 dealers = 1.2 cars per dealer per month, which is as expected, especially as it will include, presumably, at least 131 cars registered as demonstrators.
Given these small numbers, what are the chances that I'd be delivering a car each on the next 3 days, all the same colour, all 2.0L, all manual, and two of them even to customers from the same small town in NSW? No, those two don't know each other, just pure coincidence.

Remarkable actually! Perhaps most dealers do not have your seemingly unchecked commercial access to this forum or are unaware of the potential available .Obviously the moderator does not have the same view as I do and it his call and his medium but I am really sick of seeing your responses to all most posts that inevitably turn into advertvertorials .Good luck to you but not what I want from this or any other forum. Can only imagine what this generally helpful forum will degeneate ito when other dealers realise the potential that exists ! Just sign in and go for it!
If you honestly asssessed you responses to to most posts on this forum I am sure that you could not say that they actually address the topics posted but contrive to turn them into quasi commercial activity.

Good question Frank, and I'd like to tell you what I know and don't know. Firstly though, maybe we need a poll about whether I should be allowed to reply?

No poll required. It is kinda difficult to make comment on a new product you sell when the thread is about the same new product you sell.

Your positive comments about the ND have been much better than the repeating unwarranted negative comments about the ND from others posters.

As for dealership sell more of one car model than the other. I'm very certain this is not a new phenomenon. It happens.

So, on the grounds that the poll seems to be 2-0 in favour of my replying .................... I don't know anything! Sorry, but this means that the buying public knows as much as I know, which seems to be that the cars seen so far are more prototypes than production models, and that production won't start until "sometime" next year. No hints about pricing or model mix either.

Personally I've also no idea at all about what demand will be like. Suppose, as usual, it will partially depend on pricing. For anyone who wants an early one, you know what to do (runs and hides)!

On buying, all I can say is you are interacting with people. Just go around until you find one a person that is personable, and one that you can communicate with.
(nbse2)

Before you shop for anything, prepare a statement of needs, expectations, requirements, spend etc, be aware of product details and then go shopping! nbse2 is correct, the 'deal sealer' is who you are comfortable with. I have purchased 7 new Mazdas at the same dealership and with the same salesperson. Anyone who thinks that they can set the purchase price is a fool, dealer margins are set long before you walk into the lot!

Explains all the monumental fcukups that service departments make. Like when I drove out one evening with loose front wheels on my NB. .

I wouldn't consider 13 services in a day to be particularly out there, especially for a dealership servicing modern cars (so basic stuff, not things like timing belts, clutches etc)

in an 8 hour day with an hour lunch break that allows 53 minutes per car.
Most dealership services (ie: the car is basically new) are just an oil change, wipers, and plug in the computer.

Drive the car in and onto the hoist.
Lift it up, drain oil, remove filter.
screw on new filter, replace sump plug.
lower hoist, fill oil
get apprentice to replace wipers while you plug in the computer, check/clear codes
back car out of workshop into lot.
grab next car.

You can do that in 50minutes fairly simply, sure you arent exactly slacking, but it's fairly easily doable. especially with a hoist and air tools on hand.
