51 cars and the first one that Tennyson bought with his pocket money was when he was 7 - good going I say and keeps dealers in business. I can also brag having a cyclops when I was 7 but it was so slow peddling that I learned to ride a bike.

Sales of ND
http://www.caradvice.com.au/428000/mazd ... er-buyers/
http://www.caradvice.com.au/428000/mazd ... er-buyers/
The biggest year for the 27-year old Mazda MX-5 badge in Australia is 2006, when the then-new NC managed 1468 units.
But since August 2015, the new ND has managed 1251 — and remember, the 2.0-litre version didn’t launch until December, so the 1.5 carried the flag. Over a few months, it even reined as Australia’s top-selling sports car.
But perhaps more encouraging has been the demographic split. For the NC in its first year after launch, 76 per cent of buyers were aged 50 or above, with 32 per cent among this sub-set over 60. Just 7 per cent were under 39 years, and none were under 29. Remarkably bad for a fun sports car.
By contrast, 27 per cent of the ND’s buyers so far have been 39 or younger, with 14 per cent under 29. Mazda figures show that 19 per cent were 40-49, 28 per cent were 50-59 and 26 per cent were over 60 years. This is a much more desirable demographic breakdown for Mazda.

Thanx Mr. M, actually 15, even tho it was illegal to drive at that young, tender age.
I do remember having owned and sold 8 cars in one year....ohh, and 3 motor bikes, getting a letter from the Dept of Transport, stating that if I sold another car that financial year, I'd need a Dealers license.....hahaha! Bloody bureaucrats!
Anyway, interesting facts here: http://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/mazda-n ... 7-mx-5-rf/
I know it's the USA site, but the release is Global, I believe.
And, I was wrong, it will be available (depending on local availability) in the 1.5 litre and 2.0 litre and auto and manual.
Seemed a bit strange to limit the models!

selling pretty well but these reports are very selective. If anyone here is paying for Glass guide reports ( only professional businesses likely) it will have all the facts. "Sports car" is such a loose term. In the RACV and NRMA best cars I did not even see ND get a mention and yet other so called sports cars get a gong. The ND looks like it might have some legs esp with the new retractable top version and that's good for a future in this class of car.

Yes MM, I saw those 'Best Car' reports also. I am a bit amused as to what is classified "sports car" these days.

Project
My comment related to those that make me wonder how?
Of those I listed one of them 99% would classify as rubbish bins on wheels, I must say the P76 whilst IMO was outdated when released it was in fact in the V8 version a very good car. Coming from down south maby bought them second hand to tow boats etc and hav plenty of room for weekends away being pre-SUV era
A mate bought a Targa Florio new and still has it!! Another, his lime green has outlived him
When was the last time you saw a Camira [don't count wrecking yards] Most you could pick out by following the plume of exhaust smoke!

Re: How many people r going to buy the new model ND
I understood your point.
But if you say they get it wrong. Then did they get it wrong in 1989 and 2005 also? So maybe they got 5 wrong in 44 years. Not a bad hit rate. 90% correct isn't a fail.
Personally though your "fail" list is subjective. The 1996 Magna although a very beige car, still was built well and many are on the road today. (Probably due to the original pensioner owners puting very little milage on them). And the Opel built 2001 Barina isn't a bad car. I'd agree with the rest. But the subjective matter isn't really in question. Maybe only 3 in 44 were a fail?
The awards aren't the be all and end all. But they can sometimes be a good guide.
p.s. The 1985 wedge shape Magna, now that was a piece of sh!t. If one lasted to 100K and didn't blow oil seals and rings. You had a win.

Notice I made no mention of the 2012 award! wonder why?
Amazing how many have a garage with an 86 sitting beside their MX-5

They got it right in 2012 I think. Just like most other years. Seems they are wrong once a decade.zero00 wrote:project.r.racing wrote:I understood your point.

I wanna know how a 1992 626 and a Telstar beat out a 1992 Impreza? The GC Impreza ruled the roast in the 90s.

Agree!
I'm not sure why the Hyundai Excel circa 95-98 didn't win either - so many of them still getting around and looking good

Re: How many people r going to buy the new model ND
Mr Morlock wrote:I cannot say I agree with much of what Cappuccino said. The ND sells at RRP because it's in demand and discounting is not necessary to sell vehicles - its not "cocky" by the Dealers and it is a transparent transaction i.e. refer the RRP listing. People are not chumps because they did not negotiate less than RRP on a new car which is in high demand albeit because of supply constraints. Some buyers think that everything is negotiable but it's not and in the case of Mazda they will not be at all concerned about the cappuccinos that take a walk out of the showroom.
The price of MX5s today is merely a shift to parity with many other sporty makes that also have tumbled in price- along with most other makes and models. The used can market has taken a caning. By all means wait for a secondhand car but even that should stand up pretty well at this early stage.
To the guys that bought the new Mustang 12 months before it was released - they did very well - some receiving cash back from Ford as a special deal without prior notice and almost surely now having avoided a very long queue.
Ummm, who said anything about a second hand car?
You are just repeating my point, because it is a new model, dealers are not willing to discount as much as once it is no longer a new model. And why do people have to get a new model as soon as it comes out straight away? Wait a little and once all the hype is gone, save thousands. It's like people who line up to get an iPhone on day 1... it's the same phone 6-12 months down the track. And for a car, it's even better because it updates less often than a phone.
btw...
Prices from the brokers I already have (From $44,287 driveaway NSW - as estimated on mazda.com.au):
#1: $40,874 driveaway NSW (June delivery, factory order) -8.4%
#2: $39,862 driveaway NSW (June delivery, factory order) -10%
And this is while it's still new with all the hype...
