Mx5 hardtop 'seal'
I just bought a great nb8b with 113 on the clock for 7500 the only problem is that the red hardtop is sealed on or something with silicone, is this done a lot?
Can I just rip it off?
Also the softop had been taken off and I'm pretty sure some parts were missing I want to know if I can have both in there?
Lots of questions but I'm new to the forum.
Thanks guys

Firstly, nice find! That's fairly low km's for good money.
The hardtop shouldn't be siliconed (as in bathroom style silicon) on. There are rubber weather strip seals on the hardtop, have a look here for pics http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2185397/2 ... iata-mx-5/.
Yes, you can have a soft and hard tops on at the same time, obviously not both in the up position.

Great looking car.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
Re: Mx5 hardtop 'seal'
Hey guys thanks for the replies.
I think he said that he had siliconed the roof between the hardtop and the front window, he claimed it was for 'sound deadning' sounds like total bs in my opinion..
I just thought i would ask and see if anyone else had heard of/done it themselves..
i really need to find a rain rail and all of the parts that connect the soft top to the car, as he had pulled it off and left it in terrible condition. I have repaired a tear in the cloth. But there seems to be limited information on what parts are needed to re fit the softop i have and how to do it.

Re: Mx5 hardtop 'seal'
Used a tyre blackener from auto smart to get the colour back in and then I'll put another coat on when dry and try to seal it somehow.. Also used araldite to seal the patch back up and might need to put a bit more to seal it again but looking ok so far.. Just need to find out parts and install now

Never thought of tyre blacker for a faded top, keep us updated on how it goes.

Lot of info here: http://www.miata.net/garage/garagetops.html
Re: Mx5 hardtop 'seal'
All dried and looking good.. (Apart from the patch)
Anyone know how to seal it?
I should say that the product I used is part tyre paint and part silicone.. It's a specialist product from auto smart which has just come here to Australia.
You know it's good when the truck detailers use it
