Fitted the splitter. May need to redo the front supports, bit close to the centre. Also it's not waterproof, I'll use it til it warps then build a monopan version. Also there are huge gaps at either side that I need to cover, bit of aluminium riveted to the splitter should do the job.

My 12mm ply splitter isnt waterproofed, just sprayed with $2 flat black and its seen 18mths so far, including 3 soaking wet track days, and gets drenched each time the car is washed, and doesnt look any different to the day I did it. (scratches and dents from track abuse notwithstanding...)

If you used marine grade ply then this wouldn't be surprising. :wink:

Nope, wasnt/isn't marine grade, just normal plain jane ply...

Same here. Only recently lashed out and bought some rattle can flat black, till then it was unsealed basic ply from Bunnings Race Supplies. No problem with movement, but looked a bit ordinary especially after it had aged/weathered a bit - the rattle can fixed that.

I think you might be carrying a bit of extra weight at 15mm, pretty sure mine is 12mm, and it has handled hitting curbs, grounding on trailer ramps etc without any problem beyond a bit of scarring.

Fitted the aluminium dam plates onto my splitter. Oem lip allowed huge gaps at each side, so I decided to use some 90deg aluminium to dam it off. Bonus effect, may also offer a tiny increase in strength outside each of the centre support rods. Ready to test at the track.

regular ply isn't that bad when wet, it doesnt really warp either due to the alternating grain in each layer.

The main difference between marine ply and regular ply is the adhesive. Over time you'll probably see the edges start to delaminate, but frankly it usually takes a fair while before it happens, especially if it's painted.

I treat splitters as consumable items given their location/positioning.
The lower it is the better it works, but the more likely to be damaged, versus the less desirable alternative of making it higher to reduce damage, but then it doesn't work as well. (which kinda defeats the purpose of having it in the first place..)

Looking at the beating mine has endured over the last 2 years, due to kerbs, off track excursions, loading, etc, I'd imagine it will be replaced due to damage from impacts/wear well before it ever begins to delaminate...

Well today was the first track test for the wing and splitter. Half day general practice, half day open sprints. Was expecting to spend the practice sessions tweaking the wing to make it as neutral as possible. As it turns out, it was just a tiny bit pushy as I had set it, and I didn't end up adjusting the wing at all, only very minor changes to coilovers stiffness.

The difference with and without aero is incredible. The air temperature this afternoon when I set my new Pb was around 26c, 10c higher than when I set my previous Pb of 63.8. Racechrono data backs up my observations that I was losing straightline speed as the air temperature rose, even with higher entry speeds as I learned the limits of the aero grip. Even with lower speeds at the end of the day than the beginning I still managed to knock out a 63.10, improving a full 7 tenths over my previous best, and in slower track conditions too. Very happy with the aero, nothing fell off and it cut a significant chunk of time off.

There's still room for improvement in my driving, but I'm pretty happy with the direction it's headed.

Foot cam shows that once you get on the throttle you stay on it as well as heel/toe, skills I still need to work on :(

Being down at 'Hungry' for quite a few runs I would have to say you would have been one of the quickest thru there

Also great to see Josh Coote snap a 59.5 with an NA Toyota 86, of which dad Murray also had some wheel time this morning

Alsp good to see Glen Seton and son Aaron at practice with morning with the red 86 prepping for the 86 series of which Winton is the first round next month

Interested in your feedback on the new alignment setting with the extra Neg camber on the front and if this contributed to a great PB

Forgot to mention that. I measured the surface temperatures across the front left tyre and found less than half a degree difference across it. So the - 3deg camber is pretty much spot on. Front right is showing higher temp on inside by about 3deg compared to the outside, as expected with a clockwise circuit. How much effect the alignment had on times I'm not sure, since the aero and alignment both changed at the same time, never turned a lap with only the alignment changed and no aero. It didn't affect braking in a straight line compared to -1.5deg camber, but yeah I couldn't really say how much the alignment alone contributed to the fantastic corner grip.

Also think the aero helped. Will be hard to attribute either the alignment or the aero that gave the biggest impact. Still a good result.
