MX5CQ Trackday QR Monday 11/4/16

Postby adidistyle » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:17 am

I'll get this thread started, even though it might be short lived

If you don't know, we were double booked at QR for 18/4/16 and got bumped. QR offered two alternative dates, Monday 11/4 or Wednesday 20/4.

Following the recent survey of the MX5CQ Motorsport Email list, I have a tentative booking for the afternoon session at Queensland Raceway, Willowbank, for Monday 11th April. Tentative means that I have until Tuesday 29/3 to raise the numbers and confirm the booking.

As the Competition Secretary, and as a driver, I want this event to happen, but I also have a responsibility to avoid making significant losses on any event. To cover both bases, I am calling on you to vote for this event with your wallet.

If you know you can attend, and intend to do so, please pay your entry fee immediately.
If you are a regular, and definitely cannot attend, please let me know by replying by email.

If there is enough cash-in-the-bank support by Tuesday morning, the event will go ahead.
If that is not the case, I will ask you to supply your bank details, and refunds will be issued immediately.
Please do not use the QR Entry system until the event is confirmed.

Entry fees for this event are:
Early bird (received before Tuesday 29/3): $145
Full fee (received after Tuesday 29/3): $165
Late entry fee (received after Thursday 7/4): $200
For this event only, Members and Non-members will enjoy the same entry fees.

Please ensure your payment is made in time to appear in the club's bank account before the cut off date. The Club's bank details are:
BSB: 064 000
Account Number: 10002256
Account Name: Mazda MX-5 Club of Qld Inc.
Please use reference: "TD3 your name"

I apologise for this radical departure from protocol, but I believe it is necessary to protect the club's interests. As you know, this situation is not of our own making. I do realize that finding that bit of cash quickly can be problematic, but I think this my best strategy for saving the April Trackday.

If the event is going ahead I will issue an information pack, but apart from this number gathering craziness, it will be a regular afternoon session at The Paperclip.

Hopefully, I'll get to see you all there. If you have any questions please contact me after hours at 0406 780 808, or just reply to compsec@mx5clubqld.com.au
Kind regards,

Adam Shipway

PAID.

Disappointing that we can fill Lakeside (provided it is a full day) but can't get enough numbers for QR. There are only 2 dates for QR/Morgan Park and 4 for Lakeside. Further the July QR date is down as under review!

Honestly why the lack of interest in QR? Is it too far away? Taking the time off work to attend? Boring track? Should QR even be on the club motorsport calendar? Too many motor sport attendees live on the North side of Brisbane?

Give the MX5 Car Club some feedback on why QR is unworthy. Adam is doing a great job, deserves our support and feedback (good/bad).

By the way there is General Practice at QR on 10/04.

Just seen the "Our break even point is at about 40 entrants, so you can see why I am seeking greater certainty." bit of last nights email. :frown:
Fingers crossed. 8)
Will be my first time at QR, first 1/2 day too. I've been very lucky with the track days so far. :D
Way things are looking I'll be an unemployed bum by the end of next week so no dramas with time off.
Apologies again to Adam for not responding to the original survey.

Just remember everyone that Friday and Monday are Public Holidays so I'm sure Adam would prefer payment by this Thursday so he can have a less stressful Easter.

Paid and definitely will be there. Have been recruiting through a Facebook group with a decent reach too, seems a few newbies are pretty keen on attending. Might hit the magic 40 yet.

Mark, QR is a power track. There's very little finesse required compared to fast flowing tracks such as lakeside. T3 and T6 are both open exits, so all you do is dive in deep and power out. It's just not a fantastic track for low powered cars. It can be fun, sure, but when you've got Lakeside an hour away, QR is a comparatively boring track. It will always get less interest, but as long as there is enough to at least break even, I think it should remain. If nothing else it's a safer track for newbies to begin at.

Valid points Trackphotos. When I have QR 10 mins away, Morgan Park almost as far as Lakeside my perception maybe biased :)

Lets get the min 40, for once I'm even using Faceplant to try and get some interest.

I think you answered your own question. Look at a map. Locate the two track location. Put a 45-60 minute circles around the track locations. Lakeside services a lot more of the SEQ population that Ipswich.

And I cannot speak for everyone. But when peeps are using their dailys to race. The thought in the back of their minds might be breakdowns. Which makes Lakeside a much more viable option in the minds.
