I'm in. I think it's real classy. As long as we get more than a crappy silver to choose from.

The more I see the more I like.
The profile view isn't anything special, but both the 1/4 and 3/4 views are great.
An mx5 to fight the 86 whilst still being a convertible.

I've never dríven a targa, and I wonder whether they're as much fun. Do they give you that incredibly open feeling that a fully convertible does? Anyone who's tried one care to comment?

Re: How many people r going to buy the new model ND
HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has revealed the Mazda MX-5 RF (retractable fastback). The latest addition to the MX-5 family fully embodies the model's 26-year-old tradition of "lots of fun". While staying true to the original MX-5 Retractable Hardtop's goal of making open-top driving more accessible, Mazda has broken the bounds of conventional thinking to create something entirely new.
The MX-5 RF features fastback styling with a smooth roofline that slopes down to the rear end, and its unique rear roof and retractable back window offer a new open-air feeling. The power roof can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 10 km/h with the press of a button, and the roof is stowed compactly and efficiently in a limited space. Despite its fastback styling and hardtop roof, the MX-5 RF offers the same amount of trunk space as the soft-top model.
The model will feature either the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 or SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine, depending on the market. The North American model will have the SKYACTIV-G 2.0.
The MX-5 RF will on display at the New York International Auto Show which opens to the public from March 25 through April 3.

Sounds interesting.
Only ever had Fiat X1/9's as Targa's. Enjoyed them, but that was a quarter of a century ago.
This seems massively engineered for a 'simple' targa. [Which it obviously isn't

Wonder how they'll be in 20+ years once I can get my hands on one. Expect someone will have developed a simple manual removable panel by then

I think they should have made the taper to the back go to the rear edge of the boot.
And I think they need to lower the roofline (although more taper would help give the illusion of a lower roofline)
It would have also allowed them to make a liftback, which I can imagine being a LOT more useful than the current boot (plus would have allowed room for perhaps a simpler targa panel storage area)
The rear of the ND already looks chubby and tall in convertible form, adding all the visual weight to the rear just makes it look fat.

I like it. The rear fins remind me of an 89 mr2. Do agree with HKS re the fins going further back, probably similar to a charger but visibility would be worse again.
Good work mazda!

Outstanding in my view- top marks for their engineers. This will I am sure open up the market Mazda were going to miss. Us modern softies like the idea of convertible hardtops. I have to say it looks like a 86 / Subaru but has the added function to produce an open car. Incidentally I also think the Targa or Surrey top style always looked smart. An improvement on the current soft top based on these photos. Guess price will rise by 10-15% ?

I think you'll find it's only going to be available in 2.0litre (as per the Japanese website).
I also heard that it is going to be around 47k AUS....hope that is right!
Onya Mazda, you've won me....

Given how right the rumours of the ND pricing were before launch I'd take that price with a grain of salt.
