I thought they were both intercooled.

The HKS supercharger that Automotive Plus use is centrifugal, bigger and much more efficient which helps (the Rotrex being the middle ground as a smaller centrifugal supercharger).

Fab9 has a nice LHD solution: http://www.miataturbo.net/prefabbed-turbo-kits-3/fab9tunings-nc-mx-5-turbo-kit-discussion-efr-garrett-v-band-85853/
- probably wont work for RHD though since the steering shaft is in the way :(

its RHD compatible but it costs more than an NC.

The cosworth kit is an inlet manifold mounted SC.

I just checked on Goodwin and FM and at least the ones they sell now they use a water to air intercooler..

It's obviously not ideal and prone to heat soak (which it does) but the lack of an intercooler is not the main reason it makes way less power than the HKS kit and to a lesser degree the Rotrex kit, it's mainly the size and type of compressor it uses.

The cosworth one is intercooled also, tho admittedly quite small and fins are angled upwards.

300USHP does not equal 300 AUHP, their dynos are WAY optimistc compared to ours, Japanese ones too, and the UK works in estimated crank BHP so a 200rwkw australian car gets talked about in britain like "Yeah my mx5 has 380bhp.

Long story short, you have a tiny charger with no way to upgrade its size or intercooler on a fuel that just doesnt cut the mustard for its poor inefficient design.

Go to a bigger charger, follow my original advice (cams and E85) or go turbo.

This is achieved on E85 fuel.

Ron, this is going to be like a "self-fulfilling prophecy"; remember, the first thing you did when you had a good-running tune was to swap-out the 4.1 diff and revert back to standard NC diff ratio because you complained that the acceleration was too fast and you were hitting the rev limiter too quickly.

So now you want that acceleration back again, by increasing power, but it's also going to rev much faster.... which you don't want.

Unless you're going to focus and change your driving habits, accept and get used to a fast revving engine, then, as I said before, your answer to bin the MX-5 completely.

Forget about other turbocharged, small-capacity engined cars, and get a big capacity engined car.... or buy an automatic NC (then you don't have to worry about changing gears) and transfer all the parts over.

I know you like to have something unique/different, play the role of "giant killer" and go for the "sleeper" look and surprise people with an unusually fast MX-5, but even if your car makes 500hp, you're not going to be happy because of the fact that it will rev super-fast.

A modern fast spooling highly torquey turbocharger system with tall diff gears would satisfy him for sure.

Ok lets throw spanner in the works ive done all of this as follows
Cosworth running E85 including Flex Haltech 1500 elite 2.8 pulley fully built motor Crank rods pistons 20thou over Carrilo Hbeams cams head work pulling on hub dyno 270rwhp about to drop 2.6 pully on it may get another 20rwhp may not not but big $$$$$ spent
If any one can get turbo fitted and certified as as far as im aware legally 153rwkw is as far LEGALLY as you can go but after test go for it.
I did tis build for me not for any one else

Motor built by Suli Pure Fab

So more power than what I am getting is possible.

Sailor is pulling 170 kw plus, Trev 200 plus.

Ron come to the track and give it a good test. You missed a weekend at Morgan Park!

There is a general practice at QR in April that would allow the car to have its legs stretched, once you have done that then decide on where to.

The rwkw rating is what the engineering papers read, the engineer has no interest in removing your engine and engine dynoing it to SAE specs, he will just write the max legal number and be done with it.

Honestly, turbocharging these isnt that hard, but no one has put their hand up and the cash down yet.
