SDT Morgan Park 20/03/16

Postby Magpie » Sun Mar 20, 2016 6:51 pm

What a blast, 2 groups of 4 cars! Most of the time 10 flying laps at a time. Chewed through over 80 ltrs of E85.

My thanks to all the people who did NOT attend as you gave the ones who did way too much track time. Did I mention that the instructor ratio was almost 1:2. Plus passenger laps at lunch time, I took Alex and Andrew out for a few laps. Ian took Jaye.

Andrew learnt about tyre temps, Ian bettered his time from the Saturday. I beat my PB as well as dialled in the rear bias and got some feedback on the car's setup. Did I mention too many laps. Will check the logs to see how many.

Did I mention we did 3 layouts!

Must thank my other half for finding a local business in Warwick to get the diff seals replaced on Saturday as the attendees at SDT would have had MORE track time and more instructor attention.

Car handled so much better than on Saturday once the tyre temps were adjusted, brake bias played with and front rebound tweaked. The FZ201's are stuffed and have no life left. The 2 way diff, what a difference it will make in the future. Now I understand why drifting is actually fun.

Jaye still believes my spin was caused by a kangaroo. My apologies to Alex for having to put up with Jaye scolding me for spinning :)

All in all a fun weekend with good company. If not for my other half it could have ended differently. She may hate the car but makes the best pit crew you don't have to pay!

Now I have to marry her..... Just trying to figure out how to have happy laps :)

We did 15 laps (excluding warm/cool down laps) of layout B, 22 of Layout D and 46 of Layout E.

83 laps! Only managed about 15 on the Saturday.

so, you managed a more than a 100km of track distance? Sounds like an awesome day.

Was there any timing gear set up?

Was definitely an awesome day.
Amazing weekend all up. Absolutely knackered after some of those sessions. Didn't track our first time out on Layout E but after that I've got 8, 16, 11 and 15 lap sessions (not including out/in laps).*
The earlier layouts were brilliant too. Really added a twist to some 'familiar' corners. Wasn't looking forward to the sharp right after going under the bridge before we did it but that was a great circuit.

No official lap timing on Sunday but I've got Race-Chrono on the phone. Initial look shows massive improvements over Saturday [1:26.01 Saturday down to 1:21.73 Sunday]. I really should have been sticking it to some of the Porsches. I'll compare Saturdays official timing to my Saturday Race-Chrono times later to see if there was much variance. I don't have a dedicated gps device yet.

Thanks to 'the Crew' for such a great weekend.
Will have to wait until I get to work to put up a few pictures. Alex got some good ones.

* Race-Chrono totals say 132km in 2 hours 58 minutes from 11.07am (with a 36+ min break included in that time for lunch.) Had already done 4 track sessions before I started recording.
[Saturday 107km over 6 hours 18 minutes]

No official timing, was a training day. However do have the data logs :)

A few Sunday funnies:

2 members from the Jesus motorcycle riders rock up to Morgan Park to say hello and have a chat. They left by saying that they could be back soon, as they leave (out of ear shot) a SDT instructor says "Jesus said that almost 2,000 years ago".

Slug_dug liking a photo on Instagram. The person sitting next Slug_Dug says "you could have told me that in person". Have to love social media :)

Wonder what caused this to happen....

Our own private pit lane

Felt like our own private track. In fact I think I got forgotten and left out there for one epic session. 8)

Disco boots made all the difference

Guess the finishing order.
We all ended up on the podium for our group. :D

Looks like good times. Recently sold one car and will have to buy another project and include myself in the fun.

Ah thanks for all the awesome photos guys! I managed to get next to none

A really good day with much driving. With Magpie's help I got the temperatures much better sorted in the tyres and grip improved a lot after that, and with some help from the instructor I have a much better idea of the braking zones for some of the corners. The car was solid all weekend. I really need some sort of logging so I can gauge how I'm doing more accurately on these days.

If I can't be fast I may as well help others be faster. The lap record for Layout E is 0:58.4035. For layout K it is 1.08.8380!

project.r.racing the next dates are Wednesday 10 August (show day Brisbane) or Saturday 22 October

Its not too far, just break it down into a 2/3 day trip. Like eating a meal, take your time or start before everybody else :)
