What clutches have you been using dude?
I bet it's satisfying overtaking porches...

Never mind overtaking the porches. I once saw Lightyear overtake a complete hallway.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Was the door alarmed?
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

How did the wing supports/endplates hold up?

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Wing supports worked well, but the first element folded once I reached 110km/h. Forgot it had a crack along the leading edge.i "fixed" it now.
The car has sat unloved since fitting the clutch. I loaded it on the trailer to take it to Winton in the morning for the Aus super sprint championship. The times from today don't look too hard to beat, as long as the car works. There will be others turn up tomorrow like myself. So today's lap times dont mean a lot.
I didn't get the foam core that I ordered for the new wing. And the brakes still need bleeding.
I really hope the car works all day. And I can bleed the brakes adequately. Fingers crossed. I am guessing a 1:33 maybe, if it works.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Went to Winton for the Aus Super sprint. It was a mixed day of good and bad.
The day started ok, but progressively got worse. I haven't been to Winton for a long time, and with the new surface, different gearing, turbo power, etc, I knew it would take a little getting used to.
First lap in the cool morning was a 1:33, then a 1:32, then traffic. They put cars up to 20 seconds slower than me in the my group.
The next run it was already a bit hot on the track, and couldn't improve. The 3rd and 4th sessions were both red flagged after only one lap, and they wouldn't let us out again each time. Then I waited around to see if I made it into the top 10 for the final shoot out. A little unfair having 4-5 Radical Super Sports and a couple of V8 Supercars allowed to compete in the top 10 at a grass roots event. In the end only 4 cars turned up for the top 10 shoot out, and they wouldn't let me in even tho I was 11th and the others didn't turn up.
Then it gets worse, I waited for my first place trophy, and out of all the trophies they handed out, they forgot to make one for my class (non log booked 2-4l cars).
So I could have gone home after the 2nd session and it wouldn't have made any difference.

11th out of that field is still nice bragging rights for an Mx5. Sounds like the event could have been better administered...

That's a shame - sounds like we went home at the right time (before lunch).
Watched the car in that first session... It looked great.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
I need to find out how to fix the long brake pedal. It won't lock the wheels or even pulse the ABS. Something must be wrong, as it should brake better with the Willwoods that are on it.
The car seems to handle bad as well, it's like the weight transfer is more exaggerated. Maybe the grippy tyres and track are too much for my 15 year old rubber bushes. And chassis flex might be happening. The Nittos seem to suit the floppy chassis better I think.
Would have loved to go out in that top 10 shoot out. The track cooled off considerably. Need to make the proper wing, and take it to P.I and see how deep it will go into the 1:40's

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Well done to you both, those times are pretty good! And a pot each!
Pity about your wing, I will PM you about that.
Re the brakes, is there a caliper/MC mismatch? I run Wilwoods (Dynalites I think), and I have no problems with the pedal. If not that, I think you might be running out of vacuum which was what my problem was. When I fixed that, all of a sudden it STOPPED!

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

A couple of weeks ago you told me that logbooks were so cheap as to be free.
While thats a lightning fast time, you are lucky to get a trophy at all. no log book. no rego. australian championship event. What did you expect would happen?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
