Have you checked bore diameter? 0.05mm of bore wear will translate to a 0.31mm increase in ring gap. As a general guide it might be worth measuring gap with one of your exisitng rings to see what variation there is at various points from the top of the bore down to the very bottom.

I have not checked the bore, but results are consistent between the unworn part of the bore and where the rings move up and down., so I do not believe there is any bore wear.

Also the factory hone marks were still visible when I took it apart.

Is it just me or is it weird that a new set of piston rings will have a larger ring end gap then the used rings that came out of the engine ?
