Just your average looking MX5..........

I am entering the Porsche track day this coming Sunday at Sandown to test the car. All things going well, it should get close to a 1:20.

I haven't read anything about its closure. Do you know something? I know local residents want it closed. But it was there when they moved in.

Nothing to do with those residents, more to do with all those residents in the big apartment blocks they are going to build as soon as the horsey set moves out.
I understand that a deal has been done, is being done, or was going to be done between the racing (horses) club and the State Govt, whereby the horses get a new training track somewhere supplied by the Gov't I think, the cars get the flick, and the site becomes housing.
I'll see if I can find a reference.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
It's probably the only city track in Australia. Will be a shame to see it go. That land must be worth mega bucks.

Not exactly as I previously understood it, but then none of these are the original source I was remembering.
one (The Age)
two (AFR)

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Sandown 25km from CBD
Eastern creek 40km from CBD
Barbagello 50km from CBD
Queensland raceway 55km from CBD.
That shows Sandown is the Closest track to a CBD. Even Calder Park is only 28km from the CBD. But it wasn't until early 2000's before there was any residential houses close to it.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Brendan did the group buy on Willwoods brake bias adjusters. I figured I may as well have one as not. So he bought one over to take some install pics for the other guys. It is pretty simple, and only takes a few minutes. But you will need to bleed your brakes after.
And I had these cables made up to support the wing, they make a massive difference. The wing is rock solid now.

More of a halfway-house for the recently parolled and the criminally insane
Lakeside is only 34km from Brisbane CBD, according to my friends at Google Maps.

Re: Lightyear's SE Replica Track/Road MX-5
Took the car to Sandown yesterday. Went out in the first session, and had traffic (cool Porsche 911's). Made my way to the front of the pack, then missed 5th up the back straight. So back to 3rd. Then by the time I got to the front, I caught the back of the pack. So no good lap time. Did about a mid 1:24. Then I lined up 1st, but a 911 passed me on the back straight as I didn't want to go too fast and risk catching the back of the pack again. He didn't like being passed, but I got passed. So I was finally traffic free, then the clutch just starts slipping up the back straight. 5th and 6th gear and the revs stay close to 7000rpm, instead of build to 7000rpm. I backed off a little to cool the clutch, tried again, but even worse going up the back straight. 3rd farking clutch. At least this one didn't explode.
Best time frying the clutch was a 1:23.5. Racechrono suggested a 1:19 optimum. When will I catch a break? 8 laps total for the day. I was the quickest in my run group, and came 2nd out of the 4 non Porsches. 458 Italia race car beat me in the non Porsche category :0
And the carbon fibre wing element folded in the middle at around 120km/h. I just kept driving. Time for a new proper wing.
