I was thinking of giving it a go myself. I've watched several videos about it and I'm pretty sure I can manage it.
After carefully taking off the old boots, take off the nylon bush at the bottom of the shifter, and push the new one on in it's place.
Place the shifter into place, put some oil or WD40 on the shaft.
Slide the bottom boot on first, then do up the 3 x 10mm bolts taking care not to do them up too tight.
Then slide the top boot on, making sure it fits into the recess on the shaft, then replace the 4 x 10mm bolts into the top boot and again do them up, making sure they're not done too tight.
Replace the console, and hopefully, with any luck, the job will be completed... Fingers crossed.
If anyone can add anything to this proceedure, or fill in any gaps, I'd be glad to hear from you.

More the point, if the selector comes out greased or oiled it should be fine.
It's not a high wear part anyway (while the gears are spinning and have an engine putting force into them the shifter just sits still and gets moved every so often with hand force)
