Re: Dennis' nb8b
Good luck with that battery.
My GF had one in her NA6 and we discovered they don't like being charged from an alternator (or the benchtop battery charger), it seems like they need some weird system to actually work.
From the moment it was put in you'd get maybe one start, then nothing the rest of the day. Put a normal lead acid in and no issues.
It does however hold charge for ages outside the car, I use it now to power my garage stereo (old car stereo on the bench)

Re: Dennis' nb8b
Well hopefully that's not the case with this one.
I have never had luck with batteries in my cars and bikes. Partly because i don't get time to use them. I will be installing an isolator to help this time round though.
Local guy i bought it from said he uses them alot in cars. Predominately nissans and subarus to make way for cooler piping etc

mx5002 wrote:Club track day yesterday on south cct. Was a stupidly hot day. I only managed the first session before the car started sweating horsepower all over the front of the engine. I suspect either the intake cam seal or the front seal on the cam gear.
Either way did 1.04.9
It was the first time driving it without power steering. I did the full depower (not looping of the lines). I've never owned a non ps car before so it kinda feels weird on the street. Think hire go karts, lots of bump steer when turning across choppy roads but on the track it felt great! You can feel exactly what the front tyres are doing. I wish i could have got a few more sessions in to really get a feel for it. A worthwhile mod so far
Must have been my tidy lines you were following

Re: Dennis' nb8b
Been a while with not much happening. Been busy being a new parent and renovating.
Killed the motor at a recent club motorkhana. Very smokey and knocky now .
The car is pretty much parked until the new engine is fitted now so I'm trying to finish getting all the pieces together to finish it.
Pulled down the new engine I bought for it last year. Has a few nice pieces in it
I also picked up these. My father in law has jenveys on his 5 and I've been trying to resist itb's (I had planned on using the flat top manifold with a skunk 2 throttle body I bought) but Temptation got the better of me. They look great though
More updates to come

Re: Dennis' nb8b
Yep all happening that's for sure.
Going for itb's. Would love to go turbo but with a growing family, renovations and Mortgages this is kinda my last hoorah at building the car. famous last words I know
Hoping to come out the other side with a car reliable for years to come that is cheapish to run (compared to fi cars that is) that both me and the wife (if she wants to) can enjoy on the road and track

Test fit the itb's for a look at clearances. Took a lot of photos for a reference then pulled the whole lot out ready for the new engine

Re: Dennis' nb8b
Sounds like a solid & logical plan.. There's something about itb's, keeping it n/a & revving it's nuts off.
Looks the goods man, I gotta see it in action once it's done & maybe take me for a spin ; )

Re: Dennis' nb8b
Im imagining the sound of ITB's and that exhaust of yours on the limiter at the next motorkhana!!! Be epic.
Looking good on the rebuild front, when will it back on the road?
