Holden's sister company Opel has revealed details of its new Opel GT coupe concept, an Australian-produced two-door that parallels conceptual elements of Mazda's MX-5.
Thoughts?

0-100 in 8 seconds. This is a light car, with a small motor, but 8 seconds is an eternity these days.

Re: Opel GT coupe concept
It won't be Australian produced if it makes production, maybe some Aussie engineering input but definitely not Australian Produced. And yes our design houses for the big two have some of the best engineering knowledge in the world when it comes to making cars.
Stupid thing is with Holden and Ford, the dollar has dropped, now making production here of niche products viable again.
The other problem is the almost corporate vandalism by the respective head offices in taking all the money from the satellite operations. Love them or loathe them the Falcadores were some of the best bang for buck cars produced on development budgets that were laughable.

I agree fully with Matt's sentiments. The local products are still terrific cars. I reckon any younger person could do a lot worse than buy one of the performance versions and you can be pretty sure the cars will appreciate in every sense. Some love the name Mustang but I feel sure the local car is way better. Opel seemed to have a poor name here and if memory serves they relaunched and then disappeared.

Re: Opel GT coupe concept
I'm still troubled with the thoughts of upgrading my current FG MKII turbo ute to the FGX turbo ute, especially if they bring out the sprint version as rumoured, or do I spend a few thousand on a front clip and a tune to tickle the Barra into life.
All I will be really missing is the interface that I talk to to have the wrong radio station play music at me from my current ute.
The current ute is a great performance vehicle that can handle a tip run, tow the race car or do an interstate run with no fuss. It is comfortable place to spend a day if needed. It's certainly no high spec merc, lexus or Bimmer, but the panel gaps are good, the interior not too bad and you can't buy any near the same performance from Europe or Japan for the same dollars that does what it does, i.e. a 2 door 2 seat sports car with a bloody big boot

Re: Opel GT coupe concept
Am guessing it's turbo even though I couldn't see that in the article.
Problem is that the engine is half the size that it needs to be for our country.
Being a prototype, I expect much hype and many changes before it goes into production.

What's all this about Muscle Cars?
I don't like Muscle Cars (except C2 & C3 Corvettes) I'm a 'fast-fours & Rotaries' man.
8 seconds is fine. Everyone is in a hurry these days.
All the mums in their automatic SUVs burn me off at the lights.
(I pass 'em all again because they are not reading the traffic)
They're paying for the petrol.

You're now dead to me.. Just jokes mate!
There was that saying classic not plastic.
Yet corvettes are fiberglass [FEARFUL FACE]
The other saying was, only milk and juice comes in 2 litres.
Don't get me wrong, we only have 1x V8 and 1x VR 6, the rest are 4s or rotary ' s

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about plastic/fibreglass.
Has always seemed just not quite right to me even though there are advantages as well.
The way modern cars are going they will be all 'composite' before too long anyhow.
Speed, you have achieved what I could not - more than two cars in the garage. Every (car nut) man should be allowed to have 3+ cars - (depending upon inclination of course).
My dear wife thinks a family car and a sports car should be enough for any man.
What's she want from me? I bought her a new lawn mower, didn't I?

Sometimes our wives know us better than what we are willing to accept ourselves.

Mine is clearly aware that I'm capable with 1 project but suffer servere procrastination when attempting to multitask projects.

She's spot on! Has taken me this long to realise that I've been in denial 8-)
