Just placed an order for a 1.5 manual roadster in Soul Red with MZD. Delivery time is expected to be sometime towards the end of April. Thanks Dave! Now for the worst part of the process which is to sell my 135i coupe...

Pity that Mazda Australia doesn't let you pick and choose the specification like you can with a European car - I would have loved the SE-L Nav spec that they sell in the UK or the Club spec available in the US.

No worries taipan. I know I owe you an email tomorrow.

Yes, it would be great to be able to spec up a car exactly as you say. The challenge is that Australia is such a small market for MX-5 that the range had to be simplified for us so dealers could feel reasonably confident about forward ordering cars for stock. In reality, demand has proved to be so strong that no cars are being ordered for stock. They're all being ordered to fulfill firm orders from customers. Here's hoping this means Mazda Japan will find a way to send more cars to Australia.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Dave Moore -
Understand completely with what you are saying with Australia being a small MX5 market.....as you are a Mazda person (In the business) could the Club Spec model be a dealer fitted option at time of delivery ...is it not wheels and suspension ?......then this would be covered by the full Mazda warranty and not have to go the aftermarket route.
The parts removed could then be a stock items for Mazda Australia.with the price of the car adjusted accordingly..hey just a thought as I for one would have ordered a Club Spec car if available.
ND 1.5 GT - Off the shelf ...standard .......nothing done !
NA6 - Much the same

Sadly, no. At least while Mazda Australia are unable to get anything like enough cars from Mazda Japan, there is no commercial case for Japan creating an extra model for us. And if Mazda Australia did parts swaps to create the Club Spec they would be left with standard parts for which there is no market yet, and would have to pay the labour to do the swaps, and get the cars re-approved.

So if you need a Club Spec, it's going to have to be aftermarket. The good news is there are plenty of options out there already to create your own, albeit possibly without warranty, on which I am not in a position to advise you. The other good news is that you'll love a standard car straight out of the box and might not feel the need for modifications unless you take it on the track, in which case there may be warranty issues anyway (I couldn't possibly comment).

Congrats on purchase.

Mind if I ask how much you were able to negotiate with the mzd option?

MZD is $1,032 on the 1.5L Roadster. Included on the other 3 models.

So now we've got reports of up to 5 exploded transmissions on 2.0L versions of the MT ND from over in the US....... :|
All seem to be the same thing, second gear completely stripped, sometimes with associated damage to the 3rd gear, shaft and/or clutch.

All are on low mileage versions, 10K or less.....

So, the 124 will have the old NC gearbox (bulletproof?) and the ND gets an exploding gearbox. Irony.

In case any ND owners have not heard or are interested, Some Mazda dealers have in stock the door scuff plates / sill guards now.

Proof that new is not always better, especially in a series 1.
NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

Very few pictures out there of them, and it looks these are unique to Mazda Australia.

(got a Meteor Grey 2.0GT coming in March/April :D)

Yes wife is getting them in the full Kuroi pack (Soul Red 2.0GT)
She asked for a 2016 build so we'll be waiting till March/April too :D

Just a question. Why would you go for smaller wheels? The 2ltr comes with 17 inch wheels and the Kuroi sports pack comes as a 16 inch set.

Essdubbya wrote:Well it's mid January 2016 and I have my 2.0L GT Manual since 8 December.
Generally I love it though there are a couple of things that annoy me.
Stone chips - already got a couple of these plus a small scratch (stone) and a door edge (wife did it). Luckily Mazda panel beater offered to touch it up next time they are spraying a Mazda with my paint colour (Jet Black). Seriously thinkin of splash guards but they are so small I doubt they will offer much protection.
Interior lighting - described as spot lights in the brochure - marketing hype
Front sensors - don't work but they promise...
Reversing camera - ugly little pimple on a bum. Dealer refused to move it back a tad because Mazda Australia told them "under no circumstances can it be moved and must be installed as per the template supplied". Mazda Japan fit a neat little unit recessed into the bumper. Why are we the poor relations?
Size of brake discs (rotors) - haven't checked them. According to the brochure they are 280mm front and rear but I wouldn't be surprised if Mazda Australia have cheapened our version by sticking with the 254mm of the 1.5 L

Hello there,
I have my soul red 2 litre manual Roadster GT since the 24 of December. I agree that the reversing camera the dealer has fitted to my car sticks out too far and looks like an aftermarket unit.Shame Mazda shame. Will be taking it back to the dealer to have the front and rear sensors looked at. They have not worked since fitted. As per the dealer the fuse keeps blowing or the relay has a short. They have ordered a new unit. Hope they work.

I saw my first ND on the streets today. It was the red and had the top up as it is hot, damn hot, here at present.
I actually thought it looked good, which really surprised me as I didn't like it in the photos.
The NA/NB/NC still look better to me - but I don't hate the ND anymore.
