Hi all, I have a strange problem with my 89 that has been sitting for about 12 months, I fitted a fully charged and load tested battery and have no ignition lights and it will not start.
The odd thing is that the radio, headlights, tail lights, hazards, horn and lights up/down functions all work flawlessly, the power windows and heater fan worked initially but won't operate now.
The immobiliser is flat and when I open the passenger door it tries to go off but just sounds like a sick frog, could I have an earth problem?
The earth from the battery to chassis checks out with a multimeter with zero resistance, the main black, bolt in fuse in the engine compartment is showing 13.1 volts, as is the battery so I am stumped.
Is seems that one circuit is working as is should, the other not so much.
Any help appreciated, Tony.
NA no ignition warning lights, no start.

Thanks for the suggestion Stan, I should have mentioned that I made sure the terminals were clean and tight when I fitted the battery.

Try another battery.
Else it might be the alarm.
Or, make a list of 50 things you need to check!

Thanks Bruce, the battery is the second one, the first did not load test to my satisfaction. The alarm is the next thing to come out, but since it's flat too I wasn't sure if it could be that but I'll try anything.
I don't expect anyone to produce a list of 50 items, simply looking for guidance given the symptoms.
Tony.

Re: NA no ignition warning lights, no start.
Thanks magpie, I had previously read that post but since my car has power at the main fuse and the alternator, and operates "some" high load accessories, it would seem there is ample power and that it is confined to one circuit in the car, which is what led me to think it may be an earth problem but I would think that these cars would have a common earth for the whole loom, maybe not?
I should have mentioned that I get no red warning lights and the engine will not crank.
If it were an immobiliser issue normally I would get red warning lights, flashing indicators, siren and no cranking until disarmed, could this change if the immobiliser battery had lost it's charge?

I had a similar sounding problem due to dodgy relays. My fuel injection relay had melted - and so it was dead as a doornail when turning the key.. but everything else outside the engine bay was working.
Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key?
Either way - check the relays in the engine bay fuse box. You can either open up the relays and clean them, or jump the relay terminals to diagnose.
Caveat; mine is a 94 - I don't know the specifics of how the wiring differs in an 89 without going back to diagrams.

+1 for the black 'fuel inj' relay in the engine bay fuse box - there was a Mazda Technical Service Bulletin issued back in the early 1990s about them. My old 1989 NA6 had this problem which was eventually fixed by replacing the 'fuel inj' relay with one from a later batch.
