trolling

a wet day here so spending it indoors mostly in front of the screen. Spent too much time looking through Carsales especially MX5 listings.

Astounded at the deals that are around these days especially if you were prepared to travel...

Look on Gumtree for MX5's in the Brisbane area and be amazed at the asking prices.

I look at Fiat X1/9's from time to time. It was my first two-seat 'sports' car. I was in my early twenties and I loved it.

I never intend to drive one, as I know my memories will be tarnished when I realise just how poor the drive is compared to my NA.

Actually I have been keeping an eye out for a milling machine.

In the late 70's early 80's I did a bit of motoring journalism both radio and print and i tested an X1/9 and would have to say it had an amazing combination of ride and handling, just a great little car and even better in 1,5 5 speed configuration. It and the amazing Alfa Sud of the same era both remind me very much of the 1.6 Mx5 and Renault Clio 1.4 of the eighties, wonderful chassis, great ride and handling and easily able to cope with heaps more power. Thanks for reviving the memories!!

I'm slightly different.
I'm scared to see how much I've changed as a driver.
Back then there was no internet chat about tyres, different sized wheels, optimal suspension height etc. There was no internet

Our only concern was scraping enough money together for another half tank of petrol. Then just get in and chuck it as hard as you could.
Definitely some of the most fun times in my life.

We struggled with overheating back in England. I'd hate to think what my old crates would be like a quarter of a century on and in Queensland conditions. :?

Back then I owned a '76 FIAT 124 Sport Coupe and a mate owned an X19 1500.
It was a great little car and cornered like it was on rails.
I remember coming back from a drive sunburned and windburned and slightly deaf and thinking "This is a great sports car but not for me".
Never really considered buying one as my goal at the time was an E Type - but that never happened as I got married instead.

Ahhh....the X1/9. I was especially lucky to have one as a company car back in 1997. It was a 1.3l model that had been up-spec'd to the 1.5l and a 5-speed.

Enkei displayed a restomodded X1/9 at its booth at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon. I was only just reading about it on Speedhunters. Not to all tastes, but it ticks all the boxes for me.

I've owned a few Fiats - I don't know what I was thinking. :D

I'm still waiting for a price drop (like around 90%) on these Tesla roadsters. I had a look at this one in the showroom last week. Awesome car. 0-100 in 3.7 sec

And the X/19 was such a well balanced car most of the ones that didn't fall apart thanks to tin worm ended up in the wreckers with the side stoved in from hitting the furniture they were so well balanced they slid off the road very neutral hitting whatever obstacle it was around the end of whichever door at what would be the B pillar location.

Wow! So much X1/9 love! 8)

I should clarify my earlier comment and say I'm concerned my memories would be tarnished if the X1/9s drive is a worse drive compared to my NA. Mine was in the UK (Wales, to be precise), and it was a time of me and my X1/9 tearing up and down country lanes. :D

I also have to agree about the tinworm!
