Leatt MRX

Postby madjak » Fri Jan 22, 2016 5:07 pm

Has anyone tried or used a Leatt MRX HNRS?

They look pretty good for use in an MX5 given our constrained spaces. If I get a HNR, I would prefer one with lateral support rather than just a HANS. The Simpson Hybrid Pro looks ok but it must make it hard to get in an out of the car.

Don't know about comfort, but that seems to not have FIA certification?

For CAMS state level events frontal head restraint to FIA spec is mandatory, so you could only use that in club or multiclub events. Can't seem to find the definition of those on the CAMS website at the moment, but if you are considering entering state level racing then FIA is a must.

I use a medium HANS if you want to try one on.

It has SFI certification... All my current events don't require any head restraint gear, but that doesn't mean it won't change in the future. I'll have to check up on FIA certification.

From memory the only head restraint with FIA certification is the HANS, anything that gets close usually get sued for copyright infringement or patent infringement.
And since CAMS is busy sucking up to their FIA overlords and don't allow the SFI rated head restraints. Which is double sucky as the HANS is designed around having a 'halo' type seat so generally has less lateral support in an impact if you don't have this stype of seat.

NecksGen has similar device. Regulations aside, i would much rather wear a Leatt or NecksGen brace for the lateral support it gives.
I'm very surprised why HANS/Schroth doesn't acknowledge lateral impact. Not every crash is frontal and not everyone has bolsters beside their heads.

FIA and FIFA...Is there any difference in how these outfits are run?

The Simpson FHR is FIA approved, and appears to have a high level of lateral protection.

Yeah the simpson hybrid pro has very good lateral protection. However they take some time to take on/off and can restrict your head a lot making it hard to get in and out of the car. You can leave the harness on and disconnect the helmet, however for the events I do, I'm in and out of the car all day, often when there has been an on track incident and we are waiting for the track to clear.

The reviews I've read on the Leatt MRX say the tethers to the helmet are the easiest to connect and you still get good head movement.
