Hi all

We can confirm all the Goodwin Racing Roadstersport mufflers fit both the 1.5 and 2 litre cars, with either manual or auto transmission. We can also confirm the Roadstersport Catted Midpipe fits both the 1.5 and the 2 litre. We have fitted them on both however, we have not confirmed fitment on the 1.5 with Auto Transmission. They do fit the 2 litre with either auto or manual transmission.

Dose it need be tune in some way?

Yes, the catted mid pipe comes with a cat converter.

A tune is not necessary as the ECU is adaptive. That said we are working on a reflash for the 1.5 which we should have finished in around 6 weeks. Like our NC ones, we will provide a 'try before you buy' option so you can experience the tune before committing.

Hi all,

We picked up our new ND 2.0L manual on Friday and done around 350km on it, with a bit of a squirt going through the gears but keeping it off full throttle and under 4000rpm to be on the safe side.

So far loving the car, but one minor thing I wanted to ask other MX-5 owners... In third gear (and maybe slightly in 4th) I can hear a faint whine sound coming from the centre or rear of the car. Only hear with roof up, as down obviously wind noise masks it pretty well.

I don't want to get too worried as this is my first 'sports' car, and I understand there is less sound deadening etc in this type of car. Anyhow anyone think I should get the dealer to check it?

You virtually sit on top of a diff and a gearbox to your left. Sports cars are noisier than sedans. In all likelihood thats the what you should expect from a ragtop. In my MX5 ( NB) I prefer to drive it with top down as its quieter in terms of mechanical noise. Personally I found after many years of sedans that the whole sound scape of an MX-5 is noisier than any modern sedan. When you drive in traffic you will also be surprised at how noisy the traffic is especially prime movers.If it continues to annoy then drive another ND and see if it sounds the same.It takes time to acclimatise.

Well it's mid January 2016 and I have my 2.0L GT Manual since 8 December.
Generally I love it though there are a couple of things that annoy me.
Stone chips - already got a couple of these plus a small scratch (stone) and a door edge (wife did it). Luckily Mazda panel beater offered to touch it up next time they are spraying a Mazda with my paint colour (Jet Black). Seriously thinkin of splash guards but they are so small I doubt they will offer much protection.
Interior lighting - described as spot lights in the brochure - marketing hype
Front sensors - don't work but they promise...
Reversing camera - ugly little pimple on a bum. Dealer refused to move it back a tad because Mazda Australia told them "under no circumstances can it be moved and must be installed as per the template supplied". Mazda Japan fit a neat little unit recessed into the bumper. Why are we the poor relations?
Size of brake discs (rotors) - haven't checked them. According to the brochure they are 280mm front and rear but I wouldn't be surprised if Mazda Australia have cheapened our version by sticking with the 254mm of the 1.5 L

Nope. Side by side comparison confirms that the 2.0L rotors are bigger than on the 1.5L.

Thanks. Saves me trying to measure the discs and anyway the brakes are fine for everyday driving. I doubt if I could tell the difference.

Marulan - 2L is approx 1 sec a lap (on a 50sec lap) faster than a 1.5L

They are certain the suspension setting of the 2L is stiffer than the 1.5

Early version of brochure showed no difference in brake size. Think it does not shw larger fronts on the 2.0L. Will check today.

Not aware of any suspension differences. Am aware that tiny alignment differences [within factory tolerances] can make the car feel different.

Early printed brochure did show brakes the same for both models but website at the same time had the 2.0 with biggere brakes.

Very few pictures out there of them, and it looks these are unique to Mazda Australia.

True. Based on power/weight ratio and with S-spec tyres, I estimate that a stock 2.0L could possibly get down to 1:12.2 versus 1:14.7 for the 1.5L. This is based on extrapolating my NA6 record (1:15.80) and Luke's NC record (1:12.99) (link). So potentially up to 2.5s difference at Wakefield Park.
