Would you hate me if..

Postby speed » Thu Jan 14, 2016 7:25 pm

I went back to a VW???

Another member plus a recent cheap purchase has got me thinking along these lines.

Many alternatives but I've always wanted a 6 cylinder turbo in a golf with 4-MOTION but externally a sleeper.

Reckon I would use it more and baby it less. Also means I can take another 4 people with me.

Have I gone mad, what are your thoughts???
NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

As a daily I drive a twin turbo 2.0L diesel with 4motion, paddle shifts and seating for 5. The downside it has a 1.8ton van on top of it. :)
VW build great drivers cars but they can be a bitch of a company to deal with if things go wrong.
That said I just bought the wife a Skoda so I am not too worried about them.

The R is an awesome car.

Good luck.

VWs are nice cars. Grown up past WRX owners are all into them (or purch part of the VAG family).

Everytime I think about buying something with real performance I have to ask myself where I am going to be able to USE that performance.
The answer always comes back "There is nowhere that you can really use a lot of performance these days" - except maybe the track (none of these up my way).
I have thought about a Clubman, or a 2nd hand Cayman but there is nowhere I could exploit the extra power and handling.

I think you would be doing well to fit a turbo under the bonnet of a R32.

^ Power can make a straight road fun though, I love giving in my other car a squirt when I get some free space :)

I think if you like the VW and you'll use it more because it's more practical then you should get one. You can always get another MX5.

I'm always impressed with the VW's, well built and engineered without the typical price tag associated with German performance.

I love R32's. That sound! I just couldn't justify to the wife the extra 10k spend over the GTI for a V6 and AWD. Although that exhaust note is worth every dollar!

After driving my mate's R32, I personally find the lighter FWD GTI to be more dynamic and have better handling when pushed. How funny Bruce, my mate actually traded in his WRX for the Golf.

Go grab one Speed! Just watch out for that DSG...

Do what you like. However VW is now a tainted product. There are a lot of better choices and there is a fair bet that values will drop. The co already had a poor name for service and ethics and their actions confirmed that there is something seriously wrong.

I just replaced my VW Amarok (subject to the recall) with another Amarok. In the 3 years we had it no issues and the trade in value was more than expected!

I would love to get another, more practical car like the R32 (but mine would idealy be a Gen 4 Subaru Liberty GT Spec-B :D ) However, I don't want it at the expense of my MX-5.

I guess its for you to decide if you'll get more out of it than you do your MX-5? I like the idea of the R32, small car with a big engine plus 4wd - lots of speed and lots of grip. But I beleive it comes with a few sacrifices, like a lot of weight affecting the handling, and a big hit to fuel ecconomy (if that's something you think about). Have you dríven one? I haven't, so I'm just speaking on hearsay.

If you are actually concerned about being thought of as some kind of traitor by the forums, then forget that. There are several members who still contribute that no-longer have one, or sold up and re-bought. I think your inputs would still be welcome by most.

Y worry about a turbo when you can buy a off the shelf 420hp supercharger kit and fit it in a day

More than one turbo in this one.

In this case I think it is an R36 under the bonnet.

I would not go for the V6 though as the 4 cylinder turbo versions are great daily drives and can make over 500NM of torque with a base tune on the MK7 Golf.

The six speed DSG can handle a lot of power once re-flashed.

It's a pity about the top down management culture at VW but disregarding that I think their products are very good.
