15kg Lightweight AL Jack

Yeah, as per Kansei & PRR, I came to the conclusion that it was all too hard and not worth shelling out $300.plus for a sub-optimal outcome.
Even IF I could get a low-profile jack for less than $200. (<130mm tall) I would still have to spend another $30 - $50. for a set of stands, and then I'd need a piece of pipe to extend the jack handle which might not work given the small arc of possible travel under the front air dam. Not worth the effort. I have a set of low-rise ramps and a set of higher ones and I make do with those. Otherwise off to my 'backyard mechanic'.

I'll post a picture of my 'extended' steel jack. Basically it' was cut in half through the middle and extended 300mm, re-welded and braced. It makes jacking the car a little harder as there is less leverage but on the plus side it lifts quicker and higher too. It easily reaches under the front of the car to the subframe but I still need to get the wheels on blocks to clear the splitter.

I strength tested it on my Prado. If it can lift that without issue the MX5 is nothing.

I think some are missing the point of the jack I posted - I have the heavier duty Costco Arcan unit, but it weighs about 25kg.

The Sydney Tools one is 15kg...it was cheap, light and small(er) which made it perfect for track days or whenever I wanted to take a jack with me.

It's also a good backup to the bigger one.

Does the job for my occasional usage but still requires a bit of a lift on one side (block under a wheel) before it fits under the SE front splitter to the cross member.

I didn't, that's the same reason I bought one.

Used mine for the first time today. Took 5 minutes to get the car onto stands for an oil change. Much easier than using a regular jack from the boot. haha
