Greetings!

Postby Mind_Reader7 » Wed Jan 06, 2016 2:34 pm

Hello, I'm from Perth, WA. I've been looking at getting a Miata for a long time now, and I'm still struggling to find my perfect model. I love the NA8, and would love to have one in white with a hardtop (any colour, will respray or wrap it black). I though I had found the perfect match, a guy in QLD was selling his 1994 white NA8 with a black hardtop. I messaged him a few times, before noticing it was was an automatic, not a manual :(

Pretty disappointed, but I don't want to settle for less. Good things take time :)

Does anyone think that with a foamectomy, small steering wheel, and maybe pedal mod, I would have trouble fitting in an NA8 at 6'2"? I'm selling my 2008 Suzuki Swift Sport as I can't extend the seat far back enough, and it's not nice for long distance trips (although it is extremely fun!).

If you want a usable car that does not result in a visit to the physio then buy a car that suits your stature. Get a drive of an NA and see if it suits. A compromised driving position or sitting on a buckboard is really not clever. Perfect model- there really is only NA NB NC and variations on a theme. I think all the mods to try and make something fit are essentially just a compromise like wearing shoes that are a half size too small. Consider carefully if an MX-5 is really the right car.

im about 185cm...my 230000klm old seat is self foamectomised.
60mm spacer behind a 350cm wheel and i can have the seat back far enough and also see the gauges.
my head is under the highest part of the roof but on a bad hair day ,my hair brushes the roof.
as the previous poster said, better to try one for size because it will be tight.
you cant buy a better value roadster ,but if you dont fit you cant enjoy .

You will fit but won't necessarily be comfortable.

Think tall guys look ungainly in NA and NB.

I'm 6 foot and my mate is 6' 2".

Saw a similarly pair go by in another NB, which I had at the time. It looked like a pedal car - well not quite, but you get the picture.

More firmly ensconced in NC. i.e. look less obvious.

NB looks better though.

There are different ways of being 6ft 2ins. The only way for you to be sure is to try sitting in the various models.

 Are you saying 6ft 2ins in the horizontal and not the vertical...

I'm saying that different 6ft 2ers have varying percentages of their height above/below their hips, hence it's not possible for anyone to give you definitive advice, and hence you need to sit in different models, perhaps even with different mods to seats and/or steering wheels and/or dropping of the floor.

Agree with Dave, depends on your dimensions and not just your overall height. Everyone has different limb/torso lengths etc.

I'm 189cm (somewhere between 6'2" and 6'3") and I just fit into my old NA6 but ended up foamectomying the seat and was more comfortable. Later on got a Sparco Sprint (on stock rails) and that was even better. With aftermarket rails you could go lower still.

My current NBSE I find to be slightly more cramped.

Unless you have very unusual proportions at 6'2" I think it would be unlikely that you couldn't find a way of being comfortable in an NA8 with a few minor mods.
