First and easy job: replace the door weatherstripping.
Pull out front & rear clips, lift back end, grab with pliers and pull towards back of door.
Remove clips left behind, clean off the dirt, and push new strip into place. Simple!

Ok - so there's been a little bit of progress, nothing major.

Price to fix the aircon wasn't expected - turned out the old compressor was removed, and a replacement never found - to redo with all new items, a little too many dollars.
By chance, found an NA6 compressor on eBay. For $50!

In working order - apparently, so worth the risk. Turns out that it is fine! One belt, a regas and some labour later, we have cold air coming from the vents again.

Next item was the stereo. Swapped out the speakers to find the problem was the head unit, naturally - so went on the hunt for the most boring piece of modern technology I could find. Jaycar delivered with their $100 basic as unit.


Fitting a single DIN unit into an NA6 takes a couple of goes and a lot of thought. (All the NA6 owners are nodding at this point)

Got there in the end - here's the before and after pics - the night one was a test fit to verify 1989 goodness. Close enough!







Close enough on the pocket - I can live with it, unless someone knows where to get a better fitting unit?

Will be on the back burner for now - it has cool air, sounds out of both speakers (headrests are another project, drivers side are there, but no wiring, and passengers side are missing...)


In other news - if you're after an NA6 tombstone in perfect condition I have one.

For my reference, did the upper an lower shift boots while I was there - they were both the originals by the looks...

It's definitely been too long between posts on this car. Are you daily driving this one like you did Maniac? The new head unit suits the car quite well I think - its not modern and blingy, plenty of buttons make it look more appropriate.

Not dailying this one, even though it's more comfortable than Maniac. I've taken over the SP23 as a daily, comfortable, automatic and also modded stereo wise with a 7" Android unit (live Google traffic FTW)

Really like the retro look of your head unit. I looked around to find something with a display that I could configure to match the colour of the instrument lighting and, to answer your question, I fitted an IL Motorsports pocket...

Was the only one I could find that had a green display, is USB and SD card plus 3.5mm jack, but no bluetooth.

I'm using the IL Motorsport pocket too, LiteIsRight but it didn't screw into the NA8 tombstone, so I wound up screwing it into the lower attachments for the radio cage in behind.
