Location of radiator cooling fan relay on 99 NB8A??

Postby marky210 » Mon Dec 14, 2015 12:09 pm

Hey guys!

I've got a feeling that my radiator cooling fan isn't coming on when my car gets up to temps.

I've tested both fans seperatly with a seperate power source and they both work nice and strong.

I also did the test by turning on my AC and both fans work.

I'm just not sure that my thermo fan is coming on when driving or sitting in traffic. Temps slowly go up and when driving again go back down. Also I can't hear the fan come on.

Could someone please help me as to where the thermo fan relay is located(99 nb8a) and how to test if the relay is faulty?

Regards,Mark

Fan relay is located on a vertical plastic panel between the airbox and passenger side headlight.

To test if it is working;
- go for a drive to get up to temperature.
- pull over and open the bonnet while the car is still running.
- make sure the air-con is off.
- wait.

The temp will gradually rise and the fan should come on.
Note: For non-AC operation only one fan will come on.

My 1999 wiring diagram says relay is next to main fuse box, right side, rear of the engine compartment. The diagram is US, but there are 3 relays under a cover in under the fender water channel ?

Great! Thanks guys!

I've done the test getting the car up to temp and waiting for the fan to come on but it never did...

Just wanting to know how to test the relay to see if it's good or bad?

Usually it's a matter of removing it and applying power to two pins and listening for the relay to click on and off.

In saying that, from memory the relay is a standard Bosch style pinout, so just take it into your local Jaycar/SUpercheap and buy a replacement relay. I will be around the $15 from Supercheap etc, probably cheaper for Jaycar.

I did that with my indicator relay a while back, replacement works the same as factory with the exception that it clicks far more quietly (so my indicators dont go TICK-TICK anymore)

Hey marky,
Please enlighten me as to the actual location of the relay.

Cheers
