ASI radiator for NB8A. 42mm or 52mm?

Postby marky210 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:37 pm

Hey guys!

Just wanted to check with you guys if the ASI 52mm radiator fits and clears the swaybar on a NB8A and will it fit with factory fans fitted?

Or should I go the 42mm?

I will also be fitting a turbo kit so the inter cooler hoses will need to fit also...

52mm in the white car, misses the sways by a fair bit. I only have 1 fan though as no air-con.
May want to think about some Spal thin fans. See Emily's SE. You will also need to get creative with inter-cooler pipework if you turbo, but can be quite easily done. Expecially if you visit Nitro Dann for a week or so :D :D

Some say ........... there's a thickness beyond which incoming air finds it harder to get to the back of a radiator. Thus those same people say a thinner radiator with great ducting will work better than a thicker one with air escaping all around it instead of getting through it. You have done the coolant reroute, yeah?

Richard, what is the diameter of your IC piping? Couldn't help but notice it flares up at the TB which leads me to believe it's 2.0 or 2.25, or is the TB is bigger then 2.5 on a nb?

Thankyou!

I ordered an eBay 42mm.
I'm sure they sent me a 52mm, but hey, an eBay rad is an eBay rad.
Clears the sways with plenty of room to spare. I would grab the eBay fans as well since the stock fan is quite thick.
I'm running one fan on the drivers side since even the eBay fan wanted to (very slightly) interfere with my power steering lines on the passenger side.

If I remember correctly it's 70mm

Or at least, within 5mm either side of that.

Thanks guys for your responses and input!!

I ended up getting an ASI 42mm radiator and it's construction looks pretty good for a Chinese made radiator. The welds are pretty neat and clean and the fan mounts lined up perfect!
One thing I did do was trim down the fan mounts to allow the fans to sit close to the radiator core closing up the gaps around the fan shroud just like on the factory radiator.

Other than that fitment was good with plenty of room.

So far so good with no leaks and holding pressure well!

Cheers, Mark
