Definitely if you feel like trying it out. There isn't yet a PNP version for the MX5 ECU (Though I'm working on a 48-pin version), so you do need to do the wiring yourself. Fairly similar to any non-PNP aftermarket ECU in this regard though. Take a look through the wiki pages and see if it sounds like something you're interested in: [url]http:/www.speeduino.com[/url]

Lots of progress on the general project recently, but not nearly enough time to play on the MX5 unfortunately. That said, thought some here might be interested in the interface boards, these plug straight into the v0.4 board and the 48-pin stock NA6 loom. They also add screw terminals for the input of an IAT sensor and TPS.

I'll mount it all up in a case next and finish off the clutch circuit. I REALLY need to get a new wideband since the old one died, tuning solely on MAP and inconsistent readings is a PITA.

Got out in the wonderful sunshine this evening and tested whether I could get some gauges working on video when combined with Race Render. All seemed to work perfectly.

The tune here is still very conservative on the timing and fuel is pretty garbage (Still waiting on a new wideband), but its certainly drivable, better than the stock ECU now anyway.



Also fitted a different TPS. This one gives me the option of either using the variable TPS or plugging the stock wiring back in and using the stock ECU. It fits the standard TPS plug, so it's a nice easy changeover, pretty handy.

Not a whole heap of news to post, but I have managed to clean things up a bit and mount them more permanently. At the moment its all boxed up like this:

But I am beginning to investigate some more custom type cases.

There's also another MX5/Miata guy now running with the ECU over in the US too with another 3 people working on installs at the moment that I'm aware of. Hoping some time soon to have a version available that is a little more suitable for mass manufacture rather than a kit and am aiming for somewhere around the $200 mark for that when its finished (Depending on LOTS of things).

Certainly looks robust in the case, if a little bit chunky.
Hitting a $200 would be a serious acheivement, still amazed at how well this is panning out.

The size of it reminded me of my first ever Amiga external floppy drive. Now that shows my age!!!

I plan on passing on my supercharger kit to a really good mate that has experienced recent financial and mental hardship.

The only thing missing from my kit would be the ecu.

If you are able to do this for 200ish, I would be very interested, provided the processor and quality is as reliable as a megasquirt.

Please let me know. PM me if you need too because I love to organise and plan things way in advance ;)

The system will never have the full feature set of a Megasquirt 3, for example, but its designed to do the the things people care the most about and do them well. Someone converting to forced induction is a perfect example where you might not care about being able to have 3 different, switchable ignition tables or do flex fuel or anything like that, but you do need to be able to do your or injection and spark maps. That's what this is designed to do well.

Currently its still only available in a kit form, meaning you put it together yourself, but I do definitely have plans to do a version that is much simpler to 'mass' (say batches of say 20-30 at a time) manufacturer. They will also benefit from better component pricing etc, so I think $200 is a good goal to try and hit for those.

It's an awesome goal!
We'd only need basic MS2 features and an autotune function with the software.

He could assemble and in fact I think he'd prefer that to get himself involved and not feel like a sponge.

Slow but steady progress here.... A 2nd MX5/Miata is now up an running with another 2 in the works (Including a turbo):



I've also written a decoder for the NB 99-05 pattern, which is similar, but different to the earlier 4g63 one. Should be tested on a vehicle within the next week or so hopefully :D

OK, so boring update, but had the car out driving for about 3 hours today without a hitch. I'd rewritten the sensor system last month and wanted to give it a proper test. It drives considerably better than the stock ECU, particularly with quick throttle jabs, though that's not saying much as the stock ECU isn't fantastic IMHO.

I also switched the O2 over from some fairly generic wideband controller to one of the SLC Free models from 14point7 (http://www.14point7.com/products/slc-free) and spent about 45 minutes 'autotuning' from that. Mostly worked fairly well, though a little manual tuning did make the process go a bit quicker.

I think I've reached the point where I'm comfortable in being able to start pulling things like the AFM off and look at fitting the throttle bodies I've got sitting here. Means not being able to easily switch back to the stock ECU, but after today it seems like this shouldn't be a problem :D
