Test Drive
The car drives just like a standard 1800 at light throttle, with hardly any hint of being turboed. As soon as throttle is applied there is almost instant response. The torque curve feels linear according to throttle position. When full throttle is applied acceleration is very strong and the car lunges forward with no wheel spin. The torque is certainly there, but doesn't give the feeling that it is trying to rip the drive train apart. Even when punching through the gears and planting full throttle the car is stable and doesn't brake traction. We feel the car will make a very fast track car with a good set of semi slicks and good quality brake pads. The big advantage is driveability with turbo power.

Had a great drive in the country this am before work, sway bars are a huge improvement on driver feel and turn in and general flatness... cant comment on overall grip...but the zone before the slide feels very sweet...
On a down note, charlestown caltex told me they are phasing eflex out... I have already emailed caltex, no way, surely its getting more popular with the modified car market... Ive never rallied for something before, except aid to africa, but this may get me motivated to keep my pump flowing.

update on the catch can/breathing/bov thing.
Ive installed a turbosmart bov and plumbing back into the intake. (Once I understood that un vented psi pre throttle body has neg affects on the brake booster efficiency, which explained a "run on" feeling and poor brake pedal when full boost and then brake for corner etc)
I had to get the alloy intake drilled and another bung welded up, not a cheap job alloy welding...
In situ...
Aerial views, catch can sitting higher for greater gravity feed back into turbo drain tee piece, BOV tucked in place.
Happy to say that after 300k driving with this setup zero oil residues in the pre turbo intake and a dry air filter! Problem solved by the can drain system. Happy.
Save yourself, if going big hp with boost, have a bov, have a catch can, decent sized and once your happy that the oil is ok, return it to sump via turbo drain pipe, oh like the SE they would say...yes like that.

Upcoming mods are the "Nexus 7 tablet with Bluetooth to Megasquirt running Shadow dash app" install. Nearly all parts have arrived... got some reading to do...Not that the car needs any additional sounds as it has the full noise IMO but having the various gauges for keeping a safe eye on all motor is a must.

Google Nexus 2011 tablet with MSDroid
its got a few little tweaks and apps to suit my needs as a dedicated 'dashboard' tablet.
MSDroid is connected to the MS3pnp via bluetooth.
There is a slightly annoying level of lag, but i want the tablet as a means of tracking/monitoring, not really for viewing immediate real time data.

Had a few hours to day to install the roll bar...
Followed these instructions as a guideline but there's little parts that consume some time... plus some cursing. Could be done in 60mins... Need 90deg drill attachment and good 10mm drill bit...which I have

Yes it is a little, soft top is old and getting fragile so time will tell how it likes the change...
Yeah i get that "neat" is not everyone's choice but i prefer a clean blended look, 2 colors and tidy, the experience of the motor sounds and sensations satisfies everything else.

NEW BRAKES PADS and fluid flush... Hello awesome improvement in brake pedal feel and stopping performance...
Put the qfm a1rm pads on, I totally hated them as street pads on my WRX due to the noise when cold but on the mx5 they are fantastic!

I paid 110 and end for the pads... Brakemaster at Gateshead did the fluid flush and install as these days getting it done right when it absolutely matters is key, plus wanted another set of eyes on the car before it goes tracking.
Nexus install is getting interesting, parts are arriving to drive the audio amp, to talk with the megasquirt 3 via Bluetooth ( can hold multiple maps and change between them instantly ), run an roll bar mounted camera, steering wheel controller...etc etc
