You really need a small/square oil cooler behind the foglight to allow it to be mounted perpendicular to the incoming air flow for the cooler to be most effective (so that air flows through it).

Currently the air flow will be going around your cooler and not through it since it will take the path of least resistance.

I found the Setrab STD Narrow 25-row Oil Cooler (L:210mm, H:193mm, D:50mm) fitted well (see http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=41091&start=161)

I added ducting to mine too to force all air through the cooler and not around it - this would definitely help your cooling too since it creates a high pressure area behind the foglight and will force the air to go through your cooler since it can't go around it.
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

The oil cooler has alloy ducting to manage air flow.

The catch can is built now. All that's left is to duct the new radiator, build a new fastback and put the car back into track set up. Oh, and enter an event and win. :)

The ducting is all done, and I am pretty happy with it. It has been opened up a lot, and is pretty well sealed all round. And I have gone from an 18mm radiator, to a 42mm one. So I hope I get some track time without heat issues.

I just entered WRXMAS at Sandown on the 29th Nov. And AROCA on the 13th Dec. Figured I would do Sandown as its close, to make sure the car is working before driving all the way to P.I.
There is a come and try day on the 12th Dec with MSCA, but not sure if that will run as a normal track day.

And the Vic Super Sprint Championship for next year is looking good. They have 10 rounds, inc Winton. And The Australian Super Sprint Championship is at Winton in June I think. Hopefully they get lots of regular competitors.

Since I had the alloy sheet out, I decided I should finally make the air box. Pretty difficult thing to make due to the angle of the pod filter. But it's nice and secure and should work well. If I get real keen, I might paint it in black wrinkle finish.

Looks great Dave, always loved that TDR style intercooler setup too.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yep, it's better than the normal I/C set up.
This is the duct for the heat exchangers.

Yes, looks good!

In the lead up to the Supersprint nationals I spend a lot of time sealing up the radiator ducting. The end result was I needed to tape up part of my radiator inlet in order to get coolant temperatures up to an acceptable level. I am happy to live with this inconvenience as an alternative to constant monitoring of temperatures when ambients get too high.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

I did the same on my first MX5. I stupidly removed the thermostat as I thought it would help its heat. Then I "V" mounted the I/C. Ran too cool. Blocked half the radiator with cardboard.

If it runs too cold now, I can always turn the boost up. :) This car has a thermostat, so should be fine.

I am making a rear Camm tail for the fastback too. And filling in the bit I front of the tyre on the front spoiler.

Reworking the front spoiler.
Image

The fastback looks a little unfinished without a rear spoiler. So I am making a low profile one. Will reduce drag too.
Here it is in its rough shape. Needs heavy sanding.
