Hello everyone,
Longtime lurker, first-time poster . I want to buy an NB as my car for life. I love the shape and spirit of the car. But somewhere along the line I will want to add some OOMPH with a turbo. Not looking for Ferrari-beating turbo lulz, just something with a bit more kick out of the corners. It is very important to me to have it street legal in QLD. So what I'd like to know is:
How difficult is it to get a mild turbo add-on passed in QLD?
Must I get it done by someone like Turbo Dan? Or can I do a home-brew set-up?
Are the Flyin Miata type kits easier to get certified?
If the easiest route is to get an SE, what are the legalities around upgrading the turbo?

As little as possible - more money for wheels, body mods and interior
I reckon I could turbo a non SE (either kit or custom) for around $4k - $6k? That's assuming brand name products and some fabrication. But then I need to take into account any engineering/certification costs.

Cheaper to buy an SE as that's already legal.

If you want to do it "the way you want it" do it yourself and expect it all to add up to how much you want to spend x2 or more.
Or buy a well sorted one for a little more than you want to spend. It will be cheaper!

Believe that ausbuoy is considering selling an NB8A with an AVO kit and Haltech ps1000. Has a QLD mod plate. Perhaps send him a pm.

Way way cheaper to buy someone else's problems than making more on your own. Fwiw I'll end up spending closer to 10k to do it properly.
