Beautiful lines though!

Figure of $70k plus was mentioned.

Must say, this is the first hybrid that I've been excited about!
NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

Is about 19 mm longer then a series 2/3, so should fit in the garage nicely.

They have said that the proportions were exaggerated. It is only a concept after all. I'd expect any production model to be a bit less dramatic.

I'd tend to agree with that article. But it would be great to be proven wrong this time.

I still reckon the next RX should just be a turbo'ed MX with wider track, wider wheel arches, wider wheels, bigger brakes and a hardtop.

I would love a wankel, but it is time for it to do like the dodo.

I think the rotary's future is as the onboard generator for a city car hybrid, much like the Chevrolet Volt. If not used as the primary drive engine, but rather to top up energy storage, the motor does not need to be revved hard, taking away your fuel and oil consumption issues, and the engine has huge packaging advantages (as the RX-8 the). It's interesting Mazda have not announced the details of the engine - I thought it would be announced as a package similar to that, acting as a bit of a showcase for future hybrid tech

Yeh I agree completely. Tin top rather than hardtop though.

There is a Z4 M that parks on the street near my place. I always look at it and think how awesome it would be to have a Mazda equivalent with a turbo or supercharger.

The size tyres it has on it impressed me, it runs 255's which barely stick out which surprised me for such a small car.

After driving a Tesla S for 2 days I know where the future is and wont be happy till I get one
Just think what a MX5 with the Tesla S technology would be like to own and drive .

heard of the Tesla Roadster? Extrapolate that to the MX5... just find somewhere to put the batteries and add 300kg.

Any deets on the engine yet?

Have read other reports talking rx9 with the mention of a turbo and further articles talking hybrid.

Can anyone confirm both forced induction and hybrid?

As far as I know Mazda gave no firm details about the exact power train. So my best guess is that everyone is guessing what's under the hood.
Seeing as Madza is still working on getting the rotary to meet emissions standards it may be a while yet before we know.

With a nose that long, they could fit 3 x triple rotaries inline under the hood, you'd need a forward camera for driving and parking, and in the case of a front-on collision, you'd have time to calmly unbuckle your seatbelt and get out before the cabin was compromised.
