Still struggling to understand why ECU manufacturers expect owners and tuners to complete the development of their product
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

A short thread-jack.....
I would be interested in 'package' although how adaptable is it to differences in the typical 'bolt-on' additions to an SE?
Would a formal tune still be required to get the best?
Would you need to have a WBO2 fitted?
Also very interested in your opinions on this too as you are one of the few tuners with extensive experience on all three of the most commonly fitted ECUs for MX5's.
Probably best to start a new thread on ECUs and the types of packages you can offer to keep it all neat.

Technical people rarely have a say in when a product is released..They are just told to make it work once in the field..This is not new as some of the world's largest computer companies have been doing this for decades and even some of the best computer systems the world has seen suffered from the released too early syndrome.
We had an Elite 1500 installed four odd months ago on our SR20 powered MX5 and it was not easy going in that there was no base tune configuration available and previous configurations would not migrate..In short the base tune had to be configured manually.
Had we had an LS1 in our MX5 it would have been far easier as the Elite 2500 (6/8 cylinder version) was released four months before the 1500 (four cylinder version) and the tuner had already gone down the LS1 engine configuration path.
In short this tuner can now do SR20 and LS1 Elite base setups quite easily.
This brings me to Dann's experiences with now two MX5s and the functionally excellent Haltech Elite 1500.
If you are thinking of installing this ECU on your Mazda engined MX5 and you want something that is turn key go to Dann as he has done the hard yards and has already got his IP (base maps) invested in something that should work the first time.
Speaking from experience, if you install one of these ECUs and your tuner has not done one before, expect delays.
Again, I think this is a good product in that connections are managed via software rather than hardware which means the ECU can be very flexible and future changes in functionality could be just a firmware download away.
Haltech support is very accommodating but user documentation is still in short supply so all the more reason for engaging someone like Dann if you want to install one of these ECUs.

Thanks for your insight, I agree in every way.
The car is back with its owner cirrently at the start of its 1000km drive home. Another NitroDann turbocharged Mazda to add to the list. I must have done over 10,000rwhp worth of them by now.
Hopefully he can give us some feedback tonight.

With exhaust and intake, I get between 7.5 and 8.5, depending on use. Low 8s most of the time

8.5L on 98 on a mixture of road driving. 30.0L on the track on E85.

~8L/100Km on 98 with mixed driving, stock performance wise apart from a 2.5" exhaust.
